I have never seen much evidence of Google "typing" domains... I really don't think they would penalize you for a .ORG, even if you're not a non-profit. At least that has been my experience.

Who told you that? Delete them from your contacts.

    Google never said that.

There is no law that says .org TLDs are only for non-profits (though they're often used for this purpose). Do you have any specific evidence that points to the TLD hurting sales at your store, or are you going only on hearsay and rumors?

The good news for you is that this is wrong.

Whoever told you this, I'd advise you to ignore completely anything else they've also told you, just in case all their "information" turns out to be based on the same degree of accuracy and reliability.

I have had many sites with different tld's. In my experience .com, .org and .net all rank fine, while .biz and .info have been suffering in the rankings.

I have not been scientific at all about testing tld's but my experience from observing my own sites is that .org is working fine for both commercial and non-commercial sites.

We never know google's next move though.

wow... sounds like I have been getting misinformation. Thank you all for your help. I will stick with my .org for now unless i have concrete reasons to do otherwise. I was basing this on rumors only so that's why I asked.
