Is honest IM work just an illusion to make a living off IM (and adsense)?

Hey everyone,

this is my first post on WF. I've been reading a lot about IM, esp on BHW, but eventually I realized that most IM methods, esp most BlueFart methods are nothing but pure scam (not that they do not work, but they basically scam the people / the networks to make money) and although I wanted to do this because I am in desperate need of money, just before actually seeing it through I realized that I am not one of them. It does make me sick and I do not understand how people can live with it and be happy. I want to make money while helping people / contribute to the net. I do not want to blame BHW, I've learned a lot about SEO, and I am grateful, but ripping off people / networks for money just isn't my way.

Now I have the hope that one can make a lot of money with honest work off IM, right?

So I got a new plan and I need some help from honest successful people, hopefully some of you guys will help me out a bit, I would really appreciate it! I figured this forum would be the right place for it.

My plan:
Create Niche Authority Sites. I.e. for the IT broad niche, I would choose android handies - write handy reviews, android software reviews, how to's, tips, general information. Basically I would try to get as many articles online as I can. BUT - I want to make the user experience the best I can - i.e. provide HELPFUL information, concentrate information about one topic on one site so its like a "one stop for all your (put niche name in here) needs". A big part of the website should be focused on products and services though to attract buyers who want to click adsense. I think this business plan would have a long term success perspective. Am I living in a dreamworld and is this business model bull****?

SEO: try to catch quite a few long tails with each article, great onpage seo, web 2.0 pyramids, article marketing, adding extra ink juice to the web 2.0 and articles through commenting, high pr commenting to my site as well. Work my way up from long to short tails.

Monetization would be through adsense, cpa, affiliate offers. Basically anything you can think of that fits into the niche,BUT it has to be serious. (No how I cured cancer in 2 days ebooks)

IT: New domains preferably com, shared hosting, wordpress or maybe joomla as CMS.

Now I am not really familiar with adsense and I have some questions that I did not get clearly answered with my research, maybe someone wants to help me out?:

When searching for a good niche, I am looking for keywords that have enough traffic, and of course a competition I think I can handle. But I have no clue how to approach the adsense question. Is it irrelevant what topic I choose "because adsense has advertisers for everything"? I checked the serps and there were topics I wanted to write about that had none or only local adsense ads on the google page itself. When I checked sites about that topic however, those with adsense clearly had quite a few adsense ads on them, although not always perfectly related. Should I stay clear of those niches? How else should I approach my adsense research?

I've read ebooks about adsense sites that do focus on cpc and number of advertisers in google serps, but others basically go like they do not care at all, "just write content, some advertiser will be displayed", and I am confused big time.

If anyone has a business model like this working for him/herself and is generating enough money to support an entire family, I would be very grateful to have a guide along the way to making a living off IM.

The thing is - I have a lot of time actually, but I can't work the normal way having a 8am-5pm job because I have to support my Grandma who is 99, be there when she needs my help. So while I have a lot of time, I never know when that will be. But then my mother would need monetary support, (because she has similar adhd problems like me and can't manage her life, and is too old anyways), which I can not give her. Then I have health problems on my own, basically adhd, which turned my life upside down for most of my life, having a below average school education because of that, problems with my joints that make hard work impossible. This and other situations made me quite depressive, making meds necessary. Needless to say that because of this situation I am quite poor since years. Sure I could say **** the family, get a job and have a normal life but that would not be me. So well the only escape out of my problems that I see is that I make a living off IM, making it possible to have time for my grandma when she needs it and to support my mother, and giving me (finally) at least a somewhat normal life. Now I have managed to improve my adhd that much that it will not stand in the way of IM, and that gives me a lot of hope.

Now I realize that I am not the only poor boy with problems out there and probably a lot of people come into forums, rolling out their supposedly terrible (sometimes fake)life to get some help, so I'll stop here. While someone who already made a living off "none-ripping-off-people IM" that would help me would be great, I better stop having illusions about someone guiding me along the way. Actually I don't know why I am posting my life story here, I guess I had to blow off steam... forgive me folks!

Back to topic: Is my IM marketing way absolute nonsense or not? Some hints along the way? Or should I better get back to affiliate marketing, make some review sites, provided I find serious products on clickbank that have low competition keywords?

Thanks alot for any hints guys!

P.S.: If you want to flame me now, just don't post, it's a waste of your and my time...
P.P.S: I hope this is the right Forum, basically most questions are about adsense, I got a bit offtopic for part of my post, sorry about that...

Well I don't think anyone here can say that your ways are nonsense, I've been making about 1800+ from adsense for the past 3 months, I mean it's possible you've just got to test, test, test, research, research, and never give up. One of the biggest lessons I learned is that "actually" acting is important.

Thanks for your answers! Yea I hope I am on the right track here. I`ve already researched some niches today that might be worth diving into.

Soulofinfamy: How long did it take you to reach that amount? How many sites do you have? How many Pages do these sites have each? Do you have a certain "style" like xfactor old/new, 100k adsense blueprint, ... ? I could go on ask more and more but I don't want to scare you off

It looks like a decent plan. You might have to change it along the way but at least you have a plan. That's more than most people.

I would not to the linkbuilding the way you described though. Web 2.0, article directories and that kind of stuff is getting devalued these days. I would go for guest posting on other sites in your niche instead.

    Hope that helps.

Providing decent content people would gladly want to read, etc etc are all good ideas. You are seriously helping yourself by prodiving a basis for a solid long term business. You see various blogs that get sold for millions of $ a few years down the line all have seriously good content and provide value.

As for the initial paragraph about how it makes you "sick and...do not understand how people can live with it and be happy", I think you are living in a too idealistic world, something that in reality does not really exisit. In the world of business, it is about making profit. It is an arbitage situation where one is effectively exploiting others for their own personal gains. For example here you are paying somebody $5 but making $10 as a result of their efforts.

As for marketing, is is about promotion of goods and services where the product is put in the best light possible while excluding the negativity. Yes there are scam products but at the same time there are quality items too. There is nothing wrong with promotion of things that provide value to people even if you are using some form artful means to get the person to take action. As long as both the person as well as yourself mutually benefit.

So what are examples of things you have seen that you would describe as "scams"?
