How to Bury a Page in the Search Engines

I've got a bit of a task, and I'm pretty sure it's insurmountable. A client of mine has a two negative results in Google when you search his name. They are in the top two slots and the page rank of that site is <3000. It's a gov't site and it's about a legal matter that was not as yucky as it sounds. Unfortunately, that's the first thing someone will see when they search for his name. Is there anything I can do to push them off the first page? I want to say no since it's a highly ranked gov't site. Any advice before I tell him the bad news?

He doesn't have a company website? It shouldn't be that hard to rank it higher then the other ones, especially if he has a big site - keep in mind Google will place some additional links bellow the primary URL when someone searches for his company name.

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

He does have a company website, and I'm working on putting his name all over it (without sacrificing SEO content for other keywords), but I am still not sure I can get it higher than those. It's a new website, and it's not big (yet).

What about getting some more high-PR properties above that government one (hard to say how hard that is to beat...) - make a Wikipedia page, purely informative of course. Make a Squidoo Lens, a Hubpage, write a press release or two, some articles on the big sites - EZA etc. I think there would be a good chance for those to rank above that government site as they will be heavily optimised.

Who says you can't earn money as an eBay affiliate any more? My stats say otherwise

Ooh, those are good ideas. So can I actually make a wiki page about the realtor specifically? The rest are not a problem. Thanks for the insight!

What can I say - try it. Generally editors like company pages to be about fairly well-known companies, but there are plenty of exceptions to that.

Also, it must be STRICTLY informative - not promotional in any way, but rather describing the company, its history, structure etc.

But if you manage it, that has got to get a good ranking fairly quickly (a few backlinks won't harm it!). Good luck!
