Deeper Web Pages Rank Before Home Page

Hi all,

If I have a brand new website, is it possible for deeper web pages to rank before the home page, if the deeper web pages are targeting terms with less competition than the home page or is this not likely to happen? The keywords for my home page have more competition than the keywords for the deeper web pages. Please explain.

Thanks,

Terry

Once google starts indexing your site, it would be possible that less competitive terms on deeper pages would perform better than competitive terms for a homepage. So yes.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

This is still possible, even if the home page has more backlinks?

It's important to understand what is meant by 'ranking' - a page is only 'ranked' in relation to a search. As such, depending on the search being done, it's entirely possible that inner pages will rank higher & faster than the homepage.

Here's a thread that can help explain it in more detail:

Most definitely. In fact, it's highly likely. Now, I have to hedge here a bit--it all depends on the keywords.

But all things considered, longtail keywords (LTKW) should rank more easily (i.e., "quicker") than broader terms.
