Does the drop of Article Directories also affect their link strength?

In other words: Are backlinks from ezine, articlesbase etc. now weaker?

Does the SERP (actual ranking) of a property/article play a role in link building?

I am asking since usual, common assumptions about link strength NEVER use the SERP rankings as a factor, but rather a calculation based on PR of the page (where the link is)...plus number of outbound links.

If the drop of the zine directories REALLY has consequences ALSO on the link strength...this has some serious ramifications on backlink building, SEO in general..INCLUDING users (and makers) of SEO software, submitters etc...

    The homepage PR of the Article directory may be PR x, this does not apply to the inside pages, ex domain.com/some-article-something which is a PR NA or a PR 0, the key is to mix and match, in simple words combine article marketing with other SEO processes like social bookmarking, web 2.0 profiles etc

    EZA will definitely be weaker backlinks as they are going nofollow in resource box? As for the link strength... It would be my opinion that the link strength of the site would remain the same although the traffic would of course be affected by the serp rankings losses.

    For me, I use the article directories for the backlinks and not the traffic... So, the serp rankings of the directories doesn't matter to me. The link power does. Just my 2 cents.

    EZA moving to nofollow, I think a lot of SEOs will drop them completely.

    The question is, do you use articles for traffic, or only ranking purposes? If only ranking then you will have to adapt.

      EZA and similar websites can be used for both, traffic though clicks and for backlins / improving SERP's.

    I think it is too early to gauge if there is any difference in link strength from article directories. But I think a good indicator will be if sites that depend heavily on backlinks from article directories have suddenly lost ranking after the algo change.

    I dont care about EZA NoFollow....one more or less directories doesnt really matter. Not if you do article marketing and use hundreds/thousands of article sites in your link building. I just want to know what ramifications it has *for link building* if Google would penalize ALL those sites. But..as it looks all we can do is wait and observe... ;/

    Just guessing, but I'd guess that if EZA has lower rankings, it would pass on less link juice.

    I'd much rather have a link from a page that's #1 for a keyword than one that's #150 for the same keyword.

      EZA link juice has always been lousy. Not sure why people could not see this.

      Your article is an auto-generated page, created on the fly, with dozens of
      other links on it. Link juice watered down, if at all. Your article page is
      probably PR n/a to begin with, if you just created it, and will probably be
      stuck on that for a long time.

      EZA was designed to get people to publish your article. The link juice came from
      that. But the same thing as above would hold if they put it on a PR n/a site.

      EZA has been junk for years. Why people even use this anymore is beyond me.

      I stopped EZA and published great articles on my own sites. Best thing I ever
      did. EZA is filled with crappy, short, stupid, idiotic articles that aren't worth
      squat. That's what ruined it for us. Not google.

    I think that EZA drops in SERP is not because it is not trusted by teh G, but it's about how they present the content to the reader. Do you notice that they had a lot of adsense ads surounding the content? I could the same trends with other Article Directory such as Buzzle.

    It just temporary, the effects are just for existing content.
