SEO and Domain names

I am looking for a bit of guidance as far as url's go.
I understand that it's a must to have your keywords in the domain name but.

has anyone had there company name like xyz.com and for each product or service on their site created a new domain such as xyzproducts.com or xyxcookbook.com

is there an advantage or disadvantage

any help would be great.

    I would say it is not a must to have the keywords in your domain name. There are lots of examples of sites that do just fine without this. The domain name is just one of several hundred factors that google considers.

    along with keywords in domains there are many other factors like domain age and back-links that are considered so exact match domains is good but that does not guarantee a rank though.

    Keyword in the domain is not a must have for seo.

    One of my own competition is ranking #2 for a competitive keyword in my niche that looks like this hxxp://www.xyz.com/keyword/

    What they did is build the /keyword/ page to look very similar to his non-keyword Index page hxxp://www.xyz.com/

      You can have each page on your site optimised for different keywords - as long as you have relevant, optimised content, a keyword optimised page URL, and you give the individual pages a keyword optimised title tag and description then you can potentially rank well for any keyword.

      Of course it depends on external factors as well, such as strength of the competition, and your off page SEO efforts.
