I was the recipient of Adsense click fraud today ...

Today a site of mine that is lucky to get one click every two weeks received 48 clicks -- but on only 25 pages views. Somebody is messing with things, obviously.

I notified Adsense via their page designed to report suspicious activity. Is there anything else I should do?

Man that really stinks! I'm just ramping up my adsense sites and I'm glad google allows you to report suspicious activity and doesn't just close your account. I've heard that there's a html program out there that prevents this from happening by allowing a maximum of 5 adsense clicks from a single IP address within a 3 day period. Based upon your experience, I think I'll look into buying it.

What makes you think it was click fraud?

It is common to see a spike in traffic/clicks, then a lull.

It is common for people to click, check out a site, and return to
      your site and click again.

Why would you notify google of click fraud?
You think they are somehow not keeping track?
And if they weren't, why would you rock the boat and admit
      click fraud?

"I admit click fraud, google. Please ban my adsense."

I can't think of one reason to notify google of anything.
Most likely, they don't want you to.

How many invalid clicks do you think some of us get?
We get invalid clicks quite often. It's not click fraud.

Google deals with real click fraud constantly. Why would
you think you can tell them something they don't know?

In most of these threads there is a chorus of "Tell google"s
Tell google what? What exactly are you going to inform google of?

There is a huge difference between click fraud and invalid but
      real clicks.

As I mentioned Paul, this site only had 25 pages view and 48 clicks. It doesn't get 58 clicks in a year.

Yes, Google knows they were not valid because they show them worth $0.00 on my Adsense account for today. But I thought it prudent to let them know, via the website they have just for such notification, that this was suspicious. Why did I notify them? Because it *was* suspicious.

Never heard anything from Google, which is what I expected. My account status is still active. Everything normal.

As has been said many times before, it's unlikely that such activity can crash an account because if it could, any competitor could record ridiculous click activity and take down their competition.

      Still - it worried me.

That happens to my sites that I have adsense all the time. It kind of makes me feel proud that Im doing something right to piss off a competitor enough that they spend their time clicking on my ads. Sometimes I even get a nice $2.00 or $3.00 payout on their little click rants;-)

Googles smart enough now to know about click fraud.

48 clicks with only 25 page views can be suspicious, you better report this to google.

I mentioned in my original post that I reported it to Google, which caused at least one person to tell me that was not a smart thing to do ...

You absolutely did the right thing in notifying Google. It is the publisher's (you) responsibility to make sure the click activity is valid.

If you haven't already, I would recommend that you follow all of Google's tips for preventing fraudulent clicks so you can say you did all that was recommended to prevent invalid clicks.

Thanks. Can you point me in the direction to learn more about what Google recommends to prevent click fraud?

My Adsense account was canceled today. I received the email about two hours ago. Exactly six days after my *low traffic* site was click bombed and after I told Google about it via their own reporting system.

I've *never* once clicked my own ads, this is a low traffic site (along with several others I have that are all low traffic).

Can it be *that easy* to loose an account?

I've seen the standard responses before like: "Sure, we know you clicked your own ads even though you said you didn't" and "You must have done something wrong".

But I haven't. I call bull**** on this one.

I am sorry that your account was canceled. Do the Google email say it was due to invalid clicks?
