Scrapebox users: How to reduce proxy costs?

I was just about to purchase Scrapebox until I found out I probably have to spend a fortune (!) on proxies.

Ok the thing is I will be submitting tons of articles on a daily basis to article directories and need Scrapebox to blast a few hundreds/thousands of backlinks to them otherwise I won't be able to outrank my competitors for my keywords, so I really need Scrapebox. It seems my competitors use similar tools as some of them have crazy amounts of backlinks pointing to their articles as well (it works for them!). No way I can outrank them if I build backlinks manually. That said, purchasing Scrapebox is not an issue... But it just seemed so simple, until I learned I NEED to purchase proxies to avoid my IP address from getting banned.

Is there a way I can reduce my costs? Right now I don't have a ton to spend on proxies... What would be the best solution for me?

There are free proxies you can use to begin with, I believe.

Any Scrapebox users want to chime in?

Scrapebox has a free proxy feature that lets you grab free proxies before each use. The trouble is, you have to check your proxies before each use as they get shut down sometimes in a matter of hours.

I go to elite proxies dot com and grab their lists of 300 and then test in scrapebox before running. I always come out with 100 nicely working proxies for free and I have not had any issues. Just make sure you keep re-testing your proxies before each run and once you get down to 25 working proxies, go back and grab the newest list of 300 and start all over again.

      Free is good!

I use this site to get daily proxies:

    Proxy-Hunter

They usually last me longer than the ones that come with ScrapeBox.

One thing though. If your competitors have been building a ton of backlinks with tools like ScrapeBox or SENuke you certainly can outrank them with manual link building. 10 quality links from guest posting will beat 1000 links from automated tools any day.

Question: Do you use proxies when manually creating backlinks?
I want to create my backlinks and comments manually, and am wondering whether I should use a free proxy website to do this. Any help would be great!

Oh, how true Plus, I often find that once I have a list established of great place to acquire top-quality backlinks, it's easier to go there and drop a relevant comment, than it is to mess around with "automated" software.

Yes, I do have Scrapebox, but I use it purely to find great places to link to, then to periodically check whether those links are still in place. Scrapebox is great for that

What kind of success/fail ratio are you guys experiencing with these free proxies?

Using free ones either harvested from SB or from other sources, after boiling away the rubbish and starting with a good twenty plus working proxies, I am only getting something like 10% success with the fast poster to WP.

I have tried tweaking the settings but without any noticeable effect.

I have been told that private proxies will massively increase the success ratio. Is that the case?

It's not that I am bothered about the cost of a few private proxies.

I am new to using Scrapebox so I am still figuring it out - what works best - settings - proxies etc etc.

I was simply asking people with more experience of the software how much more effective they have proven to be over the free alternatives.

If good quality free ones are not that much better then I would save the time of schlapping round the net finding the best proxy deals and potentially wasting some money each month. On the other hand, if the consensus is that private is the only way to go, then I would save the time of messing around with the free ones.

I have no clue as to whether my tests are good or bad.

Running a small test with free proxies just now, I harvested 200 blogs. Once duplicate URLs and domains were stripped it left 144.

Fast commenter had 35 successes - so about 25%
Slow commenter had 63 successes out of the 109 left, so about 60%
Total was 98 submits from 144.

The free options are fine, you don't HAVE TO pay for private proxies. However, as soon as I got private proxies (I pay $29.99/month for 10), my speed & efficiency with ScrapeBox increased ten-fold. The free proxies just take too long to accomplish the same tasks.

So, you can start out with free, but when you start to really use ScrapeBox to it's fullest potential, 30 bucks per month is a small investment for proxies.

This is the same experience I had with private proxies. It really ups the speed and success rate of your scrapeboxing.. Well worth the monthly fee, I think.

So 10 proxies a month are enough when using private proxies? Is this all you use or do you also use the free ones with it? Is it because fewer people are using them that they don't burn out as quickly? I'm trying to figure out how the 10 proxies rotated through are able to handle the load.

Scrapebox has a feature to harvest free proxies. You will get a lower success rate with these proxies, usually 30%ish once you get all your settings tuned right. But if you just want to blast a few hundred/thousand they should be fine.

i am using 25 private proxies from squidproxies. I use 25 for scrapebox and ranktracker as I have lots of keywords to check ranking. So far no problem for me. I believe 10 is enough for personal usage unless you plan to do blog commenting services then you will need to get more.

    Hi Katya,

You should have asked, why did I buy ScrapeBox at the first place?

What I mean is this excellent piece of software requires the use of good proxies to function at its best.

    How to do that?

You get 10 private proxies. They are far more than enough to get you commenting on a blog list size of 200,000 to 500,000 posts and all 10 private proxies coming out fine after that.

Personally, like you, I had a liking for public proxies.

But sadly, they get burned out by the hour.

Therefore, public proxies = a good waste of time every day.

Where to get the best and cheapest 10 private proxies?

    My experience says it's SquidProxies.

Anyone can afford to pay for 10 private proxies a month if they want to make 100 times (if not 1000 times) more times profit.

PS: But if you wanna use that 10 private proxies to check PR (page rank) for a HUGE list (like 100,000 URLs), don't do it because even with 10 private proxies, you'll still get the temporary Google ban. Mix in public proxies this time. This is why you always hear people say use public proxies for scraping and private ones for posting.

PSS: Public proxies can really waste your time. Just measure time needed to harvest and check them a few times in a day. You'll be surprised. But they are needed in the mix with private proxies if you need to harvest or check PR for HUGE lists.

    Hope that truly helps.

    • What is the difference between buying private proxies and entering them in Scrapebox vs. Using a proxy rotating service like HMA, Secure-Tunnel, etc. that just changes your own IP every few minutes? As far as using Scrapebox, SENuke are concerned?

Is there an advantage in using the lists? And what type of tasks would it be preferable to use the proxy rotation services?

HMA works great with something like SEnuke, Magic Submitter, SEO Link Robot, AMR, etc.

It does not work well with Scrapebox.

Two reasons... First, when HMA does change the IP address, it takes it about 15 seconds or so to do it. Meanwhile, Scrapebox keeps on running. Second, the rate at which Scrapebox does it's work, it will burn through the IP too fast, especially if you are doing somthing like a PR check on a big list.

If you are spending a fortune on it, and wasting a ton of time why not just outsource that work? Its DIRT cheap to get Scrapebox services and you can literally get 50k+ links to your Web 2.0/Article sites for next to nothing.

I outsource most of my Scrapebox stuff for this exact reason.

I got some proxies fro SquidProxies and out of nearly 1,000 I got about 75 good ones after testing. When I scrape with Scrapbox I usually get more than 2,000 and sometimes I am lucky to end up with 20 good ones. i think the best I have done is a little over 40 good ones.

I was able to harvest and end up with more than 10,000 after running them through the blog analyzer. I am now checking PR for the domain and then I will have another list to post to. My biggest problem is finding the time to do the boring task of commenting on blogs for the link.

I've been using Scrapebox for quite some time.

Private proxies are much faster and more reliable. It is a huge difference in speed when scraping large lists.

However, you can still get a lot out of the tool by using public proxies too.

There are two things I would recommend.

First, find a couple of other public proxy providers. DO NOT use the sources provided with Scrapebox. Too many people are using them already. Huge waste of time. I have about 4 other sources I use regularly, and I am always on the hunt for new ones.

Second, when you find a couple of decent public proxy providers, do not bother testing the proxies. I know this doesn't make much sense, and most people will probably argue with me.

I have tested it though. Scrapebox will return many proxies as not working, that actually work fine. I have no idea why.

Once you can afford it, get some private proxies. However, do not use private proxies for PR checks of big lists. They will not last long unless you use the delay setting and have a good amount of private proxies (like 50 or more).

I do a ton of work with Scrapebox (so much so that I bought an extra license), so if you have any questions feel free to ask or PM me.

I only use scrapebox occasionally but I do have two copies, one of which runs on a VPS.

It cost me $29.95 a month for 10 proxies and they work awesomely although I have been tempted to cancel because I don't make use of them as I should.

Another good thing about the private proxies is that I can watch all those cool TV programs that are online that haven't yet reached our shores!

I was thinking this last week as well, but actually free proxies aren't that bad if you aren't really pressed for time.

I scrape once a day and find about 200-300 public proxies that work and that lasts me the whole day. With these proxies I've got about 30-35% success rate which is great considering some private proxies only get 60%. You can then run the failed list again to get some more

From my personal experience (of a week) I would suggest you buy scrapebox and use public proxies and then consider whether you really need private ones

I use the proxies in your sig and they're definitely the best I've found.

10 shared for $10 a month? Best deal around. And they're solid proxies.

My advice is to find a good source for public proxies and use those when you need to do something that will quickly burn through your proxies.

The shared / private proxies are great for everything else.

Thanks JS, yeah their shared is what I use. They actually call them semi-dedicated because it's their policy to only have three accounts per IP. With other shared proxy services they don't tell you how they define "shared".

Actually, I use the shared / semi-dedicated. I mainly use them for the fast poster and to analyze pages. (To check their DF status, see if they're open for comments, etc.) They've been great for me. I use public proxies for harvesting SE results since this will burn through them FAST.

Buying this tool is one thing and knowing how to efficiently use them is another.

Free proxies is a bloody waste of time, they don't scrape up to 80% neither can your comment success rate be up to 90% and when only about 20% sticks then you are on a wild goose chase and better off doing it manually.

Apart from the proxy cost, you will need a vpn or spend the whole time using slow commenter.

The good thing is, there are different ways and strategies you can use.

I can provide you with free semi dedicated proxies which will last for 8 days if you PM me.

I used to pay for private proxies every month, and then I bought Proxy Goblin. It produces 3 types of proxy, Elite, Anonymous, and Transparent, at around 50000 proxies at a time. You can then filter which type you want, automate it (with most of the types of programs we use for SEO) or manually scrape your proxies, and best of all it is a one-off payment and CHEAP! I bought it here (WSO) for about $30. I don't know what it costs now, but it is saving me around $100 a month. It is definitely one of the best buys I have ever made.

I'd really recommend getting at least 5 semi-dedicated proxies even if public proxies are fairly easy to obtain. Five is definitely not a lot. But if you don't go overboard then you can manage with just 5. (In regards to using the fast poster.)

Most of the other features can be used with public proxies. Just make sure they're good ones. There's plenty of higher quality sources for public proxies if you dig around enough. I personally use sources that CAN'T be found with software. These are usually the best since you'll need to manually copy / paste / check them. Most people are fairly lazy and don't like the extra steps required.

hmm.. I was actually considering purchasing scrapebox, but after reading this thread it really seems that it may be quite easier to just outsource.

Maybe. But if you have your own list it will save money in the long run. Even if you factor in $5 a month for proxies and another $10 for a basic VPS. (http://www.websiteserviceplus.com)

Plus you'll get the added benefit of being able to use any of it's hundreds of other features.

It depends on what you use scrapebox for, I got it to do a couple different things which would probably cost me a lot more to outsource. For me I set it to run then work on other things and come back to it later, so the slow proxies do not bother me too much yet.

A $10 VPS + $5 semi-dedicated proxies comes out to $15 a month. And if you're not a heavy user you may be able to bypass the VPS cost.

If you're constantly outsourcing even just a few of the features it's worth it to just do it yourself. Plus you'll have the added benefit of having ALL of the its features. (And there are many.)
