Exact Match Domains And Google Change

I still have many exact match product related domains that show up #1 or in the top 10 in google for that keyword. I haven't noticed any change. Granted I have many links pointed to them and non of them are registered with trademark terms.

I've noticed the opposite. If anything, I'm seeing more exact match domains either holding their positions or improving their rankings. In fact, one of my main sites was bumped from its place in favor of an exact match domain plastered with Amazon widgets... :rolleyes:

  I don't think that you can generalize the changes. I think that most changes have to do with how sites in your niche happen to be penalized, which may have made your exact keyword domain move up or down.

From what i can gather, it seems that authorative sites such as ezines, hubpages etc are losing it's ranks. There are a few exact match domains that are affected but it's the previous that's feeling it most.

Yes... indeed ezine and hubpages was hit hard...but I also think exact match domains have taken a hit also..I personally do not have any..but just by searching for keywords that I knew 100 % for sure had exact match domains on page one no longer do..not all but enough to notice.

I think domains with specific keywords will always be in the top results of google when the rest of the website is also aimed at those keywords. In terms of title, meta, bold text, h1 tags, etc

I went from not being visible in any search for my loose keyword phrase to being page 2, result 20. Yay! Which gives me confidence to continue forth!

  I also think that exact match domains will always be a crutch for google.
  1) it keeps verizon wireless.com (the verizon site) ranking for verizon wireless
  2) for any result with exact match domain it is likely that its information applys to the specific query more so than any other website
  3) even if they knew most people in SEO used exact match domains, then they still probably would not penalize it because it is people like us who go out an manually discover results that NEED more relevant results...
  4) they make 75% of any click they you get on your adsense site so im sure they dont want to just loose a giant chunk of revenue with one change of the algorithm either.
  thats about all i can think of though.

With all this talk about "exact matches" I have a slightly different question.

Let's say my base keyword is "cure disease". After searching for available domains I find:

curedisease.net, cure-disease.com and mycuredisease.com

So am I better off using the .net domain because it's "exact" or does the .com work better even though it's not "exact" but is .com. Said another way, is there a penalty for exact match on non-.com or because of dashes?

If it's a stupid question please let me know... new to this forum and SEO. Trying to get it right though...

Not a stupid Q at all.
Yes you are right the .net would be the only exact match and therefore get the exact match bump.

You get a BUMP for exact match.
The others you listed are NOT exact match at all.

Any exact match domains that dropped "took a hit" were invariably due to content not extension.

I.E. The exact match is not what was targeted, what got there heads handed to them was crap content.

Google's REAL customer is the searcher, not the web designer or the advertiser. Google knows if they have enough searchers all of us marketers will trip all over ourselves to get in front of all those eyeballs with wallets.

That's my story and I'm stickin to it...Seeee.

I like it! We have not seen any drop in EMD's. I am saying it was their content and on/off page SEO that made them drop.
