forum backlink question

The backlink part of the traffic:
You heard about SEO? Basically you can do specific things that will make google "like" your site better and rank it higher. Obviously if your webpage is liked by google and gets to be on the first page of google searches that are done often ("buy cheap books online" for instance) that will get you a lot of traffic.

One of the ways google decides whether it likes your site is through the amount of relevant backlinks you have pointing at your site. Backlinks are just links from other sites to your site. For instance in my signature is a link to my site so that is a backlink.

Obviously if you put your link in a forum signature and do a lot of posts you will get many backlinks then. However there is one thing to note. Some pages are coded so that search engines doesn't recognize the links - this is called no-follow. These links thus won't get you ranked higher in google.

Another point is that google also checks if the backlinks are relevant and if they are placed on pages already ranked high in google. So the best backlinks are from big sites that are in the same niche as your own site.

This is by no means an exhaustive account of this. I suggest you might try visiting challenge.co/ for a course in SEO and backlinks that is suitable for absolute beginners but will have you understanding the basics fairly fast. Else search for SEO guides on this forum, there is lots of stuff on the subject but it tends to require that you know what backlinks are as well as a few other of the basic terms. Probably someone here can also give you a more exhaustive answer.



On a completely different note another thing about forum signatures is that people actually do click them. So you do get a little bit of direct traffic as well

Thank you for your useful explanation of backlinks. I understand backlinks pretty well already, and I'm sorry I wasn't very clear about what it was I need answered.

This is the part I don't get.

Go and search in Google. You can have broad answers you can find there.

Forum posting is a good source backlink, like what other did they make their keyword an a live signature, eventually backlink is considerable in getting traffic, in social bookmarking, not just to add or upload page but considerable also to build a network, since your traffic may came from the people on your network.

To my understanding I don't think forum link are any usefull for ranking or getting traffic unless you are actively participating in the forum.

Google discounts forum profile links and they don't have much link juice left in it any more.

Forum backlinks are good for indexing and making link wheels etc. You need to mix it up and grab links from blogs, articles, bookmarking as well. Obviously they do not carry as much weight as athority sites but can easily boost your site from page 2 to page 1.

Whenever you make a post or a profile in a forum you can leave a link. Like the link in my signature. It takes a while to do it yourself if you are creating several profiles so you can outsource it. I do 10,000 Profiles for $15 PR 0-7 if you need. If you plan to do posts, it is easier. Just make an account on a relevant forum and post there every once in a while with your site in the signature.
