YouTube Channel good for SERP?

As I've stated before, my website is about organic gardening. I would like to do some videos (instructional, informational, etc.) and post them to YouTube. Since YT is such a highly ranked site, and anticipating that my videos might actually get some traffic, is this a good method of getting backlinks that will improve my own SERP? I think I'd do the vids anyway, since I think they'll give my readers some good info, but if I embed them, does that make it like a reciprocal link? Thanks for the advice!
