To AdSense or not to AdSense?

One of my sites (I won't mention specifics because I don't want to seem like I'm advertising) sells a service. I want the site to look professional - however, I know I could make at least a few extra bucks a month with it if I added AdSense. What is your opinion on how much adding ads detracts from the professional look of a site?
#adsense #should i add adsense

I recommend trying a split test to see how much profit you gain or lose by putting Google AdSense on your site.

My opinion, adsense ads can't help but detract from the professional look of your site. Text or display.

They can sure make you money if done right.

Tons of sites from yahoo to newyorktimes.com have ads.
Hardly unprofessional in the online world.

Heck, even warriorforum has a look-alike and other ads.

Split testing won't work too well for me, considering my profits are pretty random from the site to begin with. One month I'll get $200, the next month I'll get $0.

That's true.. I barely notice the Google Ads on the bottoms of NY Times articles. Maybe I'll try adding the ads in an unobtrusive place to start off and see how it goes.

Profits will fluctuate but its hardly likely to go down to $0 from $200, that is a bit extreme.

I wonder the shift from 200$ to 0$ in subsequent months. I think this will harm your ad sense account and get flagged for unusual activity.

It's not too extreme, it's what happened over the past two months for this site for me. The reason is that each sale is about $100, so two months ago I got 2 sales, but last month I got 0 sales. All I'm saying is that if I got another 0 sales next month, I would have no idea if the AdSense was involved in any way.

As I wrote in the post above this yours, it is not uncommon for me because I sell a service for which each sale is about $100, so it's just a matter of 2 sales to 0 sales, which is not a big difference. AdSense sales for this site are currently $0 because I don't have it on there, which is what this post was about in the first place.

If you can blend those ads well then it won't hurt the professional look of the site. Only problem is when those ads too blend it too well less people would see those ads.
