Question on blog commenting for backlinks...

I have been trying to put comments on blogs in my niche with a link to my site and I notice alot of them don't go through. I am guessing this is because they have some sort of spam filter which disallows you putting links in there...would this be correct?

Also on most comment forms there are 4 fields: name, email, website and comment.

Now with the website field if I put my website in there will it still give me a backlink or not? I ask cos if it does then I could put it in there instead of in the main comments as well since it often doesn't take in the main comments.

The moderator has to approve the comment most of the time; maybe they're not getting approved.

Usually it is because somebody has to manually approve the blog comments. Almost all blogs allow links, so that's not the spam filter - if your comments aren't getting approved even after time, I'd make sure your comments are relevant and contribute something - if they do, blog owners will happily accept them, trust me on this one!

And yes, as others said, it will give you a back link, not always dofollow, but don't sweat it too much, having nofollows from relevant, active blogs that have traffic is sweet too.
