DO FREE WEBSITES RANK WELL???

Just wondering if anyone knew whether it's possible to rank on the first page of google using a free website like: Weebly.com, webs.com, etc., etc..

Now I know that I hear many seo experts say to buy a domain since google likes these types of sites better, but I have seen a couple of free sites that rank on the first page.

I'm trying to dominate the keywords "Hip Hop Drum Samples" and if you type "hip hop drum samples" into google, you will see that there is a site titled: Hiphopdrumsamplesnloops.weebly[dot]com which lands on the first page of google for this term.

This guy is using the free Weebly.com site and still he ranks well for those keyword terms. So my question is: do you think I can out rank this guy by using the same Weebly site and just get more backlinks than he has?

Can you guys take a quick look/compar both of our sites and see who has better content and why?

    free websites can rank well, the problem is you do not control it. I'm not sure how much of a factor a subdomain from web 2.0s counts as an EMD bonus but that might be a factor that helped him rank. He probably has many months of age over you too but you can probably beat him in time...

    While some of these sites can rank well for keywords (like Squidoo, or Weebly), ultimately they work best if you use them as backlinks to your own site. If you're trying to build a successful internet business, there really isn't a replacement for your own virtual real estate.

    You have ultimate control over the site, which means you don't have to be worried about getting shut down without warning for no reason. Additionally, you have the freedom to sell the site down the line if you wanted.

    Just some food for thought.

    yes, it can rank. but only with fairly low competition for minimum efforts. If you give more effort in campaign and the page is taken down then its a huge loss on your part. So just go for a site that you control.

    From my experience the best free websites that rank well are the one from blogger or blogspot as you call it and i think the main reason it is that blogger is owned by google.
