Yahoo Site Explorer API closing?! What does this mean?

Important API Updates and Changes · YDN Blog

Especially the section about Site Explorer API being closed down!

MANY of the tools we use - Market Samurai, various browser toolbars etc. - use Site Explorer heavily for their information. Especially, SE is the most reliable way to see incoming backlinks, vital for niche research.

What's not clear from the article is whether there will be some service to replace it, in cooperation with Bing. Hopefully something even bigger and better will come along, but the news is a little worrying...

they have been talking about closing it for well over a year now. SEOmoz's Open Site Explorer is the next best place for this type of info when yahoo pulls the plug.

Open site explorer for partial information on backlinks (or you can pay for the full service). Also Majestic SEO do a paid service. And SEO Spyglass do a paid service.

If you can't afford to pay, then people will probably remain in the dark about their competitors backlinks. Which is what Bing and Google want, ultimately.

For the life of me I cannot figure out what five letter word ending in "e" is so bad you had to star it out, this one will bug me so could ya please PM me the word LOL

my main issue is what will all the current software do when yahoo site explorer is no more? use Google give us way less than 1000 links? Most software out today scrapes Yahoo to report backlinks.

Shyte with an I. Scottish/Irish/English . Word filter would've picked up the first 4 letters.

                Hi there fellow Warriors

As another alternative to Yahoo's site explorer, are you aware of ahrefs.com website? (Not to be confused with ahref.com) They're at beta stage at present.

They use their own bot web crawler and say they have the largest database of LIVE backlinks with data being available in real time after a short delay. This means in 5 to 10 minutes after their bot visits a page, all new data is available for analysis. Another USP is that it can display anchor texts backlinks totals. A user reported that after running it on one of his sites, he discovered that the number one anchor text was 'link to us' which was not his main keyword target.

Their price range is from FREE (5 to 15 requests a day) to (500 requests a day) for $99 per month

Must say that after looking around their site and reading their FAQ page, I've decided to give them a trial as they look to be on the button and a good contender
