Do domain with dashes in reduce price, google seo or anything

Like theexample.com better than the-example.com even though I think the one with the dash in looks better
#domains

Dashes are supposed to not harm seo, as long as they are word separators, resorting to dashes is better for SEO than adding prefix/suffix words. But a dashed names sale price is lower due to lower type-in traffic appeal. Dashes are a pain to type in or describe verbally.

A domain with dashes is the same as a domain without dashes for the search engines.

Regarding price: That depends on the country.

In the US: domain with dashes = less value
In Europe: domain with dashes = same value

If I can't get a keyword domain without hyphens, I'll take it with as it SEO's the same. As it's for my use anyway, I don't care about value. Eventually hyphenated domains will be snapped up as good domains get scarcer.

For SEO purposes , they are the same.

For offline value, having dashes are less valuable.
EX: used for radio/tv/word of mouth advertising...etc is not so good.

Dashes, hyphens what ever, for now according to Google do not affect SEO.

Keep in mind that the big G changes their minds as often as they change their underwear (at least I hope they change their underwear). The keep making changes to keep up with all of the scammers and spammers out in the real world trying to manipulate Google all of the time.

        Value will be affected.

If you are planning on later reselling your domain, then take out the dashes. If you are planning on keeping the domain, forget about the value go with what works for you.

Having dashes in domain names definately devalues the domain names. As far as SEO, it's the same as a regular domain name. But if you are buying a domain name with the potential for resale value later, don't buy one with a dash in it.

      They're not dashes.

They're "hyphens". The dash is a different punctuation-mark altogether.

Hyphens in domain-names make absolutely no difference at all to SEO.

If you're keeping and using a website yourself, there's no problem at all having hyphens in the url.

I have many domain-names with hyphens. Some of them I've deliberately registered with hyphens in spite of the unhyphenated versions also having been available, because they look so much better with hyphens. (Which can happen, even if the domain isn't pen-island or mole-station).

However, if you're doing this for resale ("flipping"), there's one other important consideration: many people are ill-informed on the subject and imagine (entirely wrongly) that hyphenated domain-names may not rank as well/easily/highly as their unhyphenated counterparts, and this may possibly result in the number of potential buyers being reduced, and therefore detract from the domain's resale value. If that happens, then yes, the name is, in a sense, "worth less" because it's hyphenated.

The same key on the keyboard is used to make this mark: -

Sure, when you are writing, you call it either a dash or a hyphen, depending on the reason it's being used. Regardless, it's the same key used to make the exact same mark. -

For domain names, having that mark does not matter as far as SEO is concerned. You can have 100 domains with that mark in it, and it won't matter with your SEO.

It only matters if you intend to try and sell the domain name. Having that mark (the - in it) simply devalues the domain name. If you don't plan on trying to sell the domain, then having a domain name with a - in it is fine and would probably be better if you want your keywords to be good and all the other domains are taken without a - in the name.

Basically, it depends on what your plans are for the domain name... to keep it or to try and sell it later.

Wow thanks! That has been so helpful, so would it be better to by a 3 term no hyphened domain or a two term hypened? Such as example-domain.com or theexampledomain.com
