What is a good BACKLINK?

I originally posted this in the main discussion area and it was suggested that I use this area.

What exactly is a profile link? Isn't it the signature of a blog comment?

What about the links from writing articles that include a resource box?
Which kind of links are best for increasing page rank?

Also regarding blogs, where does it say 'Do Follow' or 'No Follow"? I have been told to post comments on blogs that are 'Do Fo.llow'

Don't worry about dofollow and nofollow... just get those backlinks.

There isn't anywhere on the actual blogs that say if they are nofollow or dofollow. "nofollow" is used in the html code and is supposed to tell Google no to follow the link. You can determine if a link is nofollow by viewing the source of the webpage containing the link in question. If it's nofollow, you will see something like <a rel=nofollow href=yoursite.com>Anchor Text</a> or something like that.

A dofollow doesn't have a "dofollow" tag, it just doesn't have a "nofollow" tag.

If you aren't familiar enough with HTML to pick your way through the source code, you can download a plugin for Firefox called NoDoFollow. When that plugin is activated, every link will be highlighted either red or blue. If it's red, it's nofollow. If it's blue, it's not nofollow.

So anyway........ My personal opinion is that you should go after both, especially being a novice in the seo game. If you don't know what you're doing, you're going to give yourself away to Google by having a completely unnatural backlinking structure.

My advice to you would be to start out crafting your seo skills on some websites that aren't as important to you. That way you don't have to worry too much about getting penalized or screwing anything up.

You can inititate up to 5 links per day for free, and receive unlimited incoming requests for free - no time limit. The paid version means you can make unlimited requests, plus lots of link management tools and priority listing etc...

Officer_Iron - I agree completely with your thoughts about do follow vs. no follow. Building only do follow links would most definitely help your website rank however it will probably look unnatural to Google. In the end you may get negative results and a drop in your rankings. In my opinion, just build as many backlinks as possible to your websites and don't worry about the do follow vs. no follow.

Profile links are links on your profile that goes directly your website.

Writing articles that include a resource box is a bio of the article's author. Where you can use your desired keywords and link it to your site.

In my own opinion, blog commenting are the best way to get good backlinks but all of the linkbuilding strategies are all useful and can increase your site's page rank.

Don't worry too much about dofollow and nofollow, but, as much as possible, try to build your backlinks in dofollow sites.

You need to do all types of link building for increasing your page rank. not only profile or article link may help to improve rank. Second thing is that signature is not the only way to get profile link. You can add you link in about me, home page url and many other fields to get links.

I think by now you know the difference between nofollow and dofollow, and what are their functions. I normally make a balance between nofollow and dofollow blog comments. The blogs which have high traffic rank I make my self active on the blog and participate in the discussions as I can drive traffic from this blog no matter even if my comments are nofollow but I am making backlinks. On the other hand if a blog does not have a good traffic rank it must be dofollow so I can have some benefit from the blog if I participate in the discussion of the blogs.

I try to post meaningful and positive comments on the blogs, as it help me a lot to make a good relation ship with blog owners and as a result they also spread good word about my site and follow it. I consider my self very luck when I suddenly stumble upon a blog which have high traffic rank and also dofollow.

I agree to do both. But what would be the benefit I get from nofollow links. I have learned that nofollow links are simply ignored by the search engines.

First, you have to make sure that forum is DO FOLLOW which allow bot to follow link and get backlink to your website. If it's DO FOLLOW then just wait and see. If you use the right forum which update often then robots will indexed yours fast.

While focusing on the links you should concentrate on building relationships. The success of your website depends on the good quality relationships. They can benefit more than a good quality backlink.
