I recently wanted to try a test if you will. I bought a domain name, uploaded wordpress to it and decided I would do the least amount possible. I just used good old on page seo with it.

It is a exact match domain.I made it only one page so not much content! I did some LSI keywords on the front page. I added alt tags to the images. Keywords in Heading tags.

When it was indexed it showed up on the 2 page #2.
and it continues to climb.

After a few weeks it was able to rank 1st page of google number #5 out of 2.4 million results. The site has no page-rank and only 4 back-links that I can find.

The google places listings are all over this page for the keyword I targeted.

There is also 6600 searches monthly for the keyword I targeted!

So here is my question do you think because the on page seo was done sorta right that it ranked high quickly? or is it a fluke?

    Hey Tim,

I have sites that have similar results. According to what I've seen, the domain name is a big one (if you have that exact match for the keyword). Also...check out the sites that rank right around you and see what their title tags, meta tags, H1, H2 etc are...compare that to ALL of that plus your domain name and that is probably the answer.

Wow - that is great! I think choosing a domain that matches your keywords is a big plus. And using your keywords where you did. I was also going to say that you must have picked keywords that didn't have that much competition, but I see that is not the case.

Maybe you should try it again with another keyword phrase and see if your results are the same! Then you can teach a class on it:-)

It is also happening to one of my new site. I posted 1 page blog and applied onpage SEO and then published it. I checked it 3 days afterward and it was on the first page of Google ranking number 3 out of 2,830,000 broad result for a very competitive niche. What is even more amazing is that this website has a .info extension. I did no backlinking and I'm not going to start right away. I am going to let Google do its thing and see where it goes from there. I just hope that it stays there forever.

From my little experience, the EMD (exact match domain) plays a HUGE role. I assume you also got lucky with the fact that your competitors were not as targeted as you were? For example, no other EMDs, those who rank don't have their title tags, description tags, permalinks and on page SEO optimized for the kw you're targeting. And also probably their backlinks didn't target the specific anchor text while yours did!

These are the factors that I take in to consideration in my kw research. If any other factors played a role, I would love to find out!

    Hope the ranking lasts!

In some cases, Exact Match Domain do play a big role and in other cases it flops. It just really depends how competitive the keyword is. For example, I was targeting a particular two word keyword and checking all the competition on the first 5 pages of the result. One domain has a dot net extension and its on the second page for that keyword. And when I checked its content, it only has one post. Guess what was posted on the post. Yup, "Hellow World!"

That right there says it. I have ranked several exact match domains on the front page without any off page seo. And I am talking about some decently profitable terms. The thing is, they usually drop off after a week if I don't add a few links to them.

I bought a minisite for $34 so i could reverse engineer it (yes a newbie) and after 4 days 1st page for a keyword that gets 1900 searches a month. 6 weeks later still there. Unfortunately the click conversion isnt that high.

First I thought it was google's regular presention for new site, you know, newly indexed site always get good rank in the beginning, but after saw this I would say it's the domain name make your site there.

Thanks for all the replies I was unable to get the warrior forum and safari to cooperate for a few weeks.

So I've continued to just leave the site alone and see what happens. It is now in the 2nd spot moved up from 5th.

Also something that I find weird is now google shows the results being 9.6 million results. I've noticed this in a lot of website rank checks I've done lately the results have increased dramatically. Anyone else notice that?

The site only has 108 words total no updates or changes. I'm starting to think the exact match domain combined with the LSI on page plays a major role in how well a site ranks.

I tried another one with a exact match domain and LSI with more words and it's page 1 rank 7 out of 7.8 million results. I think I might be on to something or getting really lucky, lol

I'm pretty sure it's the domain name which is causing that.
