Are external links still bad news?

Is it still bad to have external links leading away from your site, perhaps as part of a directory of industry publications, after the Google algorithm change?

I know it used to be considered that you could lose SEO juice that way. Is that still the case?

    If you link to strong authoritative domains in your niche, look at it as providing your users some extra quality information in that niche for which they will thankyou for pointing them to such a useful resource.

    Goodwill means increased trust in you and that can work wonders. It is not always wise to measure in terms of link juice.

    too much external links is bad but having a few going to a authority site might even help you.
