I Think Too Many People Are Over Worrying Over Googles New Changes

I do think the people that should be worried are the ones who have crappy sites that do not have unique content.

For everyone else, if you just create helpful sites with plenty of unique content, and properly SEO'd
I think you will be fine.

My thoughts anyways

Good point! There is no need to worry. Just make sure that you provide your customers with quality content. The scraper sites are the ones who need to worry.

I think there is still the question left in the room whether Google can distinguish good from bad unique content.

Probably they are using the number of backlinks to judge this. So maybe bad content (which is unique) will still rank better than good content when more backlinks are pointing to it.

I don't think Google is intelligent enough actually to understand what it indexes. If it would be that would be awesome as you could really ask it some questions and you would get a specific answer! Then Google would be SuperBrain.

I guess this isn't so good after all!

In any case, while Google is currently the major player.. they are not the ONLY player.

I'm worried, should I not be? I have high quality content mixed with official manufacture press releases on technology news.

I care about my readers and they WANT to read industry news. So of course I republish some duplicate content (as do other major websites in my industry)

My site is an all-in-one resource. So breaking news is something that my readers value.

My traffic, since googles update, has dropped 30%. Less money is coming in, so I am running low on funds to pay my writers.

I just upgraded to VPS server at hostgator, how am I going to pay this? I depend on my traffic/money to pay for the website. And I am not suppose to worry?

Although alot of the people you see posting in forums probably deserve to have their rank lost for using dodgy methods,no unique content or followed some "guru's" advise on a forum, Unfortunately google has made genuine people , with genuinely good websites and content nearly have break downs.

You only have to look around the google webmaster forum thread that a google employee has asked for peoples opinions on the update, read the first couple of pages and you'll soon see this update is more than just people loosing their ranks for crappy sites. Its alot more involved than that.

Alot of the sites involved are authority sites in their niche , some well over 10 years old. Loosing 50% traffic and revenue can be a massive shock to the system after a long term revenue earner suddenly drops out of the sky and to make it worse see crappy sites above these great sites.

Personally all of our results have actually stayed roughly the same so the update hasnt affected us or our clients currently.

Here is that thread i was talking about ~: Think you're affected by the recent algorithm change? Post here. - Webmaster Central Help

I am very sorry for your situation. Someone told me that Google ranks pages and not sites.
So with that knowledge can you answer the following questions please? Thanks.

      1. Does your home page still have unique content all the time?

      2. If your home page has unique content is it still ranking where it was before?

      3. Are the pages that are dropping in rank the ones you are putting duplicate content upon?

      4. Please expand on anything else related to the above you can think of?

Wish I could fix your situation, King Arthur

        1. Does your home page still have unique content all the time?

Usually. As of now, I no longer re-publish press releases. Though my competitors are. Not sure why my site took a hit when other sites that I use to out rank still re-publish duplicate content.

        2. If your home page has unique content is it still ranking where it was before?

I am not sure. My traffic is still declining to this day. I lost 500 daily visitors just the past 2 weeks. I'm not sure why Google is hitting me so hard. I'm not in a competitive niche and my content is very useful and compelling. I am gaining lots of Feedburner subscribers, people don't subscribe to crappy websites, do they?

        3. Are the pages that are dropping in rank the ones you are putting duplicate content upon?

No. Even unique content pages are dropping. I'm honeslty not sure if the duplicate content is the issue as my competitors are out ranking me and they re-publish press releases every day.

        4. Please expand on anything else related to the above you can think of?

I was using the wordpress plugin by EzineArticles to feed my blog articles to my Ezine... I really think that's why my site took the hit. In fact, as I am typing this, I found this post that says 'DELETE THIS PLUGIN NOW!'. I think I may have just found my problem. Google may think my website farming off ezinearticles. I'll need to look more into this...

And so many are misrepresenting the facts. The fact is, google is just
doing what they always promised. Now with teeth.

Too many people assume their site took a hit without really looking close.
There are fluctuations in SERPs constantly.

Very few, if any, real websites took a hit globally. Some of their pages
did. The worst pages. But very few sites had ALL their pages gone.
And people are spouting this site and that site took a hit, when all
that happened was cruddy pages took a hit. The good pages are
    still there.

People put two and two together and get five.

Wise people had already done a complete scrutiny of google webmaster
guidelines. And followed them. Realizing it has nothing to do with
"duplicate" content and other such rot.

If you build sites and pages for people, guess what will happen?

Is google going to stop this service?

Not True. See some other threads here. Sites with quality unique contents are losing ranking too!
