Does Forum Profile signature/links count as backlinks? I mean ALL?
#backlinks #count #forum #profile #signature or links

Yes they do... profiles don't get indexed very easily and with the link saturation on post pages doesn't really make these links very powerful.

Yes, they count if you are posting in a DoFollow forum (meaning their outgoing links do not have the "nofollow" HTML tag). Each forum backlink isn't worth much, but they really add up once you have created a lot of them.

Who said you that only dofollow backlinks is counted as a backlink and nofollow backlink is not counted. If you dont have adequate information about any topic then please dont misguide people. Imagine yourself being in the situation when others are misguiding you when you are seeking for an information . For your kind information nofollow backlinks is counted as a backlinks , the only difference between the two is the dofollow pass the PR link juice from the backlink site to your money site, whereas nofollow doesn't do that.:p

In my opinion the sig links here are pretty powerful. If you are going to be posting here often then you might as well build some backlinks while you're doing it.

An example: I have a pretty new site that is maybe 3 months old that I was #1 in Google for my term. I removed my link from my sig here in this forum and a few days later I had dropped to #17. I put the link back and about a week later I had reclaimed the #1 spot for my term with no other backlinking. I then removed it yet again and added some minor backlinking(blasting a few articles to directories and a few blog posts as well as a few blog comments) and I created a squidoo lens for my term linking back to my site with correct anchor text. I was able to get back to #10 for my term. I re-added link back to sig and am now waiting for the links to be applied. I expect to jump right back to #1 and have a stronger hold on the position.

Take the example how you want. Your results may vary and probably will. Others may dispute my testing but to me it is clear. The signature links here carry some weight for sure and I believe it is quite effective. Hope this helps some with your question.

    yes it is.

a backlink is an incoming link to a website. period. so far as it's clickable on someone else's page and points to your site, it's a backlink. but whether it's dofollow or nofollow is another thing to consider.

Yes they do, just remember that every link on a page reduces the power of all links on that page. So if there are 50 backlinks already on a post, yours won't count for much.

Do you need to post in forums which are the same niche as your website?

I watched a video about backlinking recently from Neil V and he said that if you get backlinks from non-relevant sites then Google punishes you. Is this due to the recent Google algo change or has it always been the case?

What a poor thing that some people thinks of getting "punished" just by having irrelevant sites linking their sites.

If it does, then every site must be punished then.

I think you are a little too hopeful. Signature links are weak, period. The decrease in rank, has nothing to do with the power behind the signature links, but because it was links that were removed.

What is the doubt in that! Yeah, Sure and certain it is! and It gives you a link popularity in front of the Google as well. So keep doing forum postings as much as you can to make your link popular but keep this thing in mind don't set up your mind make that forum posting is only for getting back links, its basically for healthy discussions otherwise you may start low quality posting that is to be avoided.

What I have been wondering is does it matter if your comment is first rather than last?

Certainly, forum posting is one of the greatest way to get valuable back links.

Some of the things to consider before indulging in this are:

Find do follow forums related to your niche

Sign up and read there TOS - a MUST

Add your website anchor at the signature area

    Start making meaningful post.

Another benefit of forum posting is, whenever you have a new site or new web page from your previous site, you can easily add the site to your forum sig and instantly get all the links to your recent post to your web page.

Depending on the forum, signature links can be effective. I'm not going to sign up and manage 1000 signature links, but if you're going to be active in a forum and looking for both direct traffic and a little link juice, then go for it.

I only use profile links (en masse) to index other links. I don't use them to link directly to sites that I promote.

I checked my google webmaster tools and nothing from this forum has shown up and none of the links I've paid for recently have shown up either.

I used linkclaw (offered on this site) and made a custom rss of a bunch of the places where my articles are posted, including the .edu links which I bought on this site (and so far only 1 post on all those blogs has been indexed) and none of them are getting indexed either.

I have some old forum links that have been indexed, but nothing in the last year or so seem to be getting indexed. I don't get it.

I have two other forums that I've posted on regularly over the years, but neither recently. Both show up and give me a lot of links, so maybe it just takes longer for forum links to show.

The way I've been feeling lately, nothing is ever going to work. I have done everything suggested and nothing changes. Or at least it doesn't seem to. I'm currently waiting for some high PR links to be posted and to sit there for long enough that Google sits up to take notice, but that's my last hope.

I'm getting very frustrated. It's not even like there are a ton of sites I'm competing with. There are like 5 total. If that. Maybe even 4. Except one person owns two of the sites and between the two of those sites, they take up at least 3 of the top positions. Just sucks.

(Sorry. I'm needing some cheese for my whine.)

Angela & Paul's links are good when they come out at the very beginning , once they are spammed , you get many webmasters cutting the registration page for a couple of weeks.

Profile links are good , but profile links with good quality response related to your niche will bring a lot more ten just a couple of backlinks.

Many people in Forums are looking for solutions, if you are selling a good product that will solve their problems, you will get a BK and a sell.

but i want to say, it not means you can focus on the quantity, and post some spam post or comment.
it can easily image, if what you post or comment is very useful and professional, it will cause a high attention on it, and correspondingly more people pay attention on your link.

Forum profile signatures can count as backlinks if the site is do follow, but lately too many people have been abusing the privileges so many sites that were do-follow are now no-follow

I then removed it yet again and added some minor backlinking(blasting a few articles to directories and a few blog posts as well as a few blog comments) and I created a squidoo lens for my term linking back to my site with correct anchor text. I was able to get back to #10 for my term.

In general, I think forum links are quite good. However, I am that the nearest future would require more targeted forums (if your site is about video games, and you have 30 links from cat and dog forums).

I would not be surprised if Google also considered monitoring how many links a site has from one forum. (1-2 profile links or 100 signature links).

Since Google are so focused on quality, it would probably be a bit harder for a spammer to get away with hundred spam posts inside a forum, then building 100 individual profile links.

I guess that is why we already see a market where people buy old forum profiles, simply to be able to get a lot of link juice from signature links.

Yes, they do count as backlink yet just like most commenters here are stating they are not that powerful. However, the purpose of signatures in forum posts is not limited to just backlinks.

It can also serve as advertisement. Making a signature that can indicate what you are providing can help attract clients. This is why posting in a relevant forum site is highly important. This is not just for backlinks but also attracting the right kind of traffic or clients.
