Best to have static front page for product blog?

Hey Warriors..

I seem to have this same problem on a lot of my Wordpress Amazon style product blogs where there is one post after another of products.

One of my blogs I'm currently working on does not have a static front page, but an article first as a sticky post, then underneath it - the posts listed one after another for each product.

The problem I have with this is each time I publish a new post to a category - it also posts on the front page. So, if my home page keywords are more general, each time I make a category post (more product specific) - it get tacked on to the bottom, which kind of screws everything up.

Is there a way around this, maybe a plugin that will withhold the post on the front page?

Also, Some I have set up to have a static front page with long article - is this the best way to go for SEO?

Any input would be great, as I have many of these and keep running into the same problem.

thanks,
Liz

Yep, a static page is definitely the way to go for SEO purposes. Your rank is going to fluctuate constantly if the content on your homepage keeps changing - it becomes a big head ache. I use a static page for my site and have a slider showing the most recent posts at the top to keep things looking fresh and current.

Thanks for your input Ben. I had a feeling other people would agree about the static front page.

I'll have a look at your seo discovery as well.
Will also check out the slider plugin that I just found.

for the time being static page is fine, but it looks like google is merging towards frequently updated websites.

I use category post plugin which allows me to have posts from one keyword specific category. Works fine

Don't focus so much on the front page. So many people only look at their front page and the main DOMAIN, they build links to the domain (front page) only and forget link building AND monetizing on all other sub-pages and articles!

This is silly since every article and URL on your site can rank as well (if not better) than your front page...and a lot of traffic from the search engines actually enters your site landing on the actual articles/posts...NOT necessarily on the front page.

Do not make the mistake and only use articles "to fill your site with content" and make the mistake to ONLY monetize on the front page.

Treat each article/post on your site the same.

Of course, you CAN use a static front page and try to optimize for a specific keyword for the front page...but its really not that important. I often choose to only display excerpts on the front page for my blogs.
