Question about Google (AdSense <--> AdWords) Highest Paying Keywords...

For some reason i came to the conclusion that google

might pay exactly

20%

of what they earn on Clicks from AW towards their AdSense customers.

reason:

Those known "highest paying" keyword lists are actually listing the cost per click COSTS for AdWords advertisers.

The "highest" KWs are usually in the $60 or so range, designating the COST for that click.

Assuming we get 20% of what google charges, this would make the maximum possible payout for a received click on AdSense $12. (Based on circulating lists)

Many, many "average" keywords are in the $0.35 - $0.40 range CPC, this just my personal observation of what many people think is tolerable what they pay for their clicks.

20% of $0.40 is exactly $0.08 - a number which i personally get VERY, VERY often paid per click on an "avg" ad.

This making me believe that google has a fixed rate of 20%. So..if you have one of those "best paying KW list"...take 20% and you know what you will actually get.

    Hi G,

I did not see in your analysis the consideration that advertisers can and do bid separately on Content Network ads.

The high bids you see on those lists are generally bids on the Search Network only. The same advertisers in most cases are bidding much lower on the Search Network, or not at all.

I believe this fact alone accounts for the majority of the difference you see in advertisers cost vs. AdSense payouts. It would be nice to see data on the Search Network ad costs, but sadly that is not published any where that I know of.

So, your 20% estimated payout must be adjusted upward to allow for the lower cost that advertisers are paying in the Content Network vs. Search Network. However I agree that 20% is a pretty close number as far as what you might expect to earn on average in AdSense as compared to the Average cost advertisers are paying in the Search Network.

I just disagree about the 20% payout, I believe that to be too low.
