Hi Warriors,

Though i re-write my wordpress blog permalink structure, im not a great fan of it, because it makes the URL structure very big, like http://www.myblogname.com/this-is-my...url-structure/ some even adds .html to end that makes

I was reading farmer update and came across this stub in searchengineland article.
From Lessons Learned at SMX West: Google's Farmer/Panda Update, White Hat Cloaking, And Link Building

Cloaking For Search-Friendly URLs

Note that several Search Engine Land articles (including this and this) assert that cloaking to show search-engine friendly URLs is OK with the search engines, but Google in particular has been definitive that this implementation is not something they advocate.

The basis for some thinking this scenario is OK by Google seems to be a statement from a Google representative at SES Chicago in 2005. But back in 2008, Matt Cutts clarified to me that "cloaking by rewriting URLs based on user-agent is not okay, at least for Google." (My understanding is that was the first speaking engagement for the Google representative and he wasn't fully up on the intricacies of cloaking.)
Do we need to rethink about our permalink structure? I still feel a shorter domain name with default permalink structure does good. It atleast tells google you are not seo optimizer and do not tweak your site for search engines?

What you think of the permalink structure should be after panda update?

Thank you.
Jai

That's funny, because in the official Google SEO guide they specifically advocate search engine friendly URLs for both their own benefit and end-user benefit.

Yes they mention to use search engine friendly URLs but not to re-write them, I think it is for static sites?

I am saying that thinking about search agent based URL rewriting is...just silly. To be honest, this is the first time i heard about this. Mind you i otherwise know what cloaking is.
Why on earth think about such superficial things...there might be 1000x more important factors for SEO or things better to waste time on. That's why i said "must have too much time on their hands" since i don't see the point in this.

And..uhm..whether Matt is the man "behind Google"...well he is on their "Anti Spam" team as far as i know and does a lot of their PR...but i really wouldn't say he is "the man behind Google"

if you are using wordpress you can add the "all-in one seo" plugin and then when you make a post, you can quickly add a short keyword rich title (for google purposes) and maintain the original title of the post which will be more user friendly (hopefully enticing for people to want to read the post.
