Do you think it's better to be the first result on page 2 or last on page 1?

I feel I often times only check the top results page 1 before clicking ahead to page 2.

If you think it's better for page 1, is this based on theory or metrics that you have tracked or read (from a reliable source)?

I currently have a website that has been at number 10 for some time and then went back to number 11. I feel like it is better to be at number 11 I do get more hits than i did at number 10 also.

With that being said it is much better to be at number 5 and above for your keyword. So you try and get that keyword ranking there. I mean if you are already hovering around bottom of page 1 then all you will need is some decent backlinks and you will move up in the serps.

Im not sure of the small percentages accurately however 10 and 11th places get more traffic than 9th place does respectively. This was something i read some time ago which had some graphs and heat maps etc. Its not really surprising when i think about it , after the top 5/6 i normally scroll right to the bottom of the page to find the page numbers, occasionally i click the 10th spot if it interests me. So its better to be 8th or 10th and hope to miss out the dreaded 9th spot lol, im not sure have accurate those maps were either but it was definitely food for thought and an interesting read.

This is great insight. Would you happen to still have the URL to that article?

It all depends on the searchers preferences but I believe it is something like 75% of searches (or more) don't end up on page two at all. - Of these, it's hard to say how many also don't scroll to the bottom of the page either.

Don't settle for rankings on the bottom of pg1 or the top of pg2, get your page within the top 3 listings of your keyword and put an awesome meta description and you can easily get top hits for your keyword.

Don't give up till you get there!

    Cheers,
    Dave

    Depends on the niche.

I deal with a lot of downloads/images on my sites, people will dig deep in the SERPs for a download or an image.
