What is Competitor Link Analysis? How it works?

I need to know the idea of Competitor Link Analysis and how it is done? Its importance?

    You need to look at your competitors links and check the following:

    Page rank of the actual page the link is on
    anchor text used with the link
    number of links from one single website (it is better to have one link from 100 different websites than 100 links from one website)
    are the links in context of the page or just a comment.


    These are the types of things you should be looking for. It is very important to check your competitors links. I like to use seo quake for firefox to check my competitors links then I try and copy their links.

    If you find that your competitors links are all on page rank 1 or above and the are targeting the anchor text that you are targeting and their links are diversified then you will need alot of SEO work to out rank your competitor.

    With the above being, this is just one aspect of SEO. You need to make sure your on page seo is good also and a bunch of other factors.
