I heard a rumor that google ranks "pages" instead of "sites" in general. Is that true?

  • Yes that's true and has been for quite a while now.

What's the difference? Isn't a site containing the pages?

How would you rank a site?

You can get multiple pages listed per keyword search, but you'll never get all 10 spots on the first page for a single domain.

Many sites have monopolies. Yukon himself says he ranks for 1,2, etc.
One of my sites has #1-5.

Although we should give a word of caution. Google can rank "sites"
using what is called sitelinks. That is, you get your
"domain" #1, and get many sitelinks underneath.

If google thinks the site and your search warrant sitelinks, then
        yes indeed! Monopoly!

Yes, I think this is Google's glamour that let more single domain appeared at the first pages.

Google "indexes" pages , "ranking" is determined by a number of different factors which include, domain , URL's, content etc etc etc.

The question its self is incorrect.

      PR stands for page rank

When someone refers to their "PR4" site - they are saying the index page of the site is a PR4. Other pages on the site may be higher or lower PR.

Thanks for showing everyone that you didn't even read the few words OP wrote.

Thanks for not looking at the poster and having some respect.
The reply still adds something to the mix. If you replied like that
to each post that maybe was "unrelated" to OP, you'd wear your
fingers out typing. So, next time look at the poster, then decide
if a respectful answer is warranted or just ignore it.

Am I disrespectful? Guilty. But I answer people with 10 posts a
whole lot differently than someone with 1,000's.
