Are link wheels and link pyramids the same thing?
#link #pyramids #wheels
  • No, they aren't but they can work similar. A link wheel is a bunch of sites where site A links to site B, which links to site C etc. and goes back to site A (that would be a closed linkwheel). A link pyramid is literally a pyramid: at the top is your money site, below it are high quality links (1st tier), below that are several more medium quality links (all pointing to the first tier) etc.

Great! Thanks for clarifying that. Have both link schemes been around for an equal amount of time?

Also does one structure provide more SEO benefit than the other?

It's hard to tell how long each of them have been around.

How much power each gives depends on several factors, especially how many properties you include (obviously, the more sites are in a wheel, the larger it gets and the more link juice gets pushed around and pointed to your site, same with the link pyramid).

I personally stick to the pyramid because it allows you to do a linkwheel at the same time within a tier and if some of the lower tier links got hit it won't reflect as negatively on your money site than if direct links to your money site were removed or devalued.

So if you were to use a link wheel within a pyramid - for example, one of the sites on your first tier would be the center of a wheel, as opposed to your money site?

As an example, lets say you have 5 properties in your first tier. What you could do now, instead of just direct linking to your money site from each of them separately, you could link property 1 to 2 to 3 etc. and STILL have all of them point at your money site as well. There you have a link wheel within a pyramid.

    Not necesarrily.
What matters are the sites in the link wheel/pyramid.
I guess quantity might also have something to do with it.

Link pyramid is the disgusting method for link building. I think it needed some correction.

Would you say link wheels and pyramids are better than just linking everything to your money site? i am curious if anyone has seen tangible results of one over another.

I have never heard the term of link pyramid, but in my work, I have put this way to practice unconsciously and the result is good.
