If you have a wordpress site and you're getting links you'll get notifications of the link as a pingback comment.
It looks like this in your dashboard:
Depending on what kind of site you're managing you're probably going to delete these comments. The main reason you would is that they end up creating a reciprocal link and reducing the value of them. But don't ignore them.
These links are on their way to being good links but they need some help to get there. You can help to make sure they're indexed and get some authority. I'm going to take note of the URLs and link to them from another site with anchor text that is relevant to the linking site.
It's not a very involved process with a service like UAW because I add new pingback URLs to every resource box I create. Since I'm submitting articles every day I can build a line of authority back to my site quickly.
If you're doing all your backlinking manually you might want to just concentrate on pingbacks on relevant sites. It all depends on how many links you can create in a day and how many pingbacks you get.
Either way, by linking to your pingbacks you're helping to get these pages indexed (so that the link to your site counts) and you're feeding more authority through to your site. You could do this for every link you ever get to your site.
