I am lost in a world of backlinks, suggestions, and everything else!

Hello all,

I am trying to get better results for both my website: HERE

and my FB Fanpage: HERE

I thought I was doing things correctly, but I am not getting any results. When I read about SEO, it blows my mind, and my face melts off and my kids start crying over my exploded body (to semi-quote Mr. Sheen)

When I try to read up on how to do SEO, I get ultra confused. Is there an easy way to do this on my own, because in the end, I would like to be able to handle this entirely for my company.

If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

Matt

Its not complicated. You can get backlinks to get just traffic and not for seo purposes. Backlinks are links you have on another sites. A blog comment is 1 backlink, a link exchange on another site is 1 backlink, a forum post with your keyword in signature is 1 backlink. And then you can check the number of backlinks you have with the yahoo site explorer by typing in your domain.

The best advice is to stick with it. use your anchor text, and track all the links you build to make sure they're getting indexed.

You can also use some software to make it easier, but one of the most important things is to keep getting new links from new sites.

Also backlink your backlinks and they'll be a LOT more effective.

It's normal that you get confused sometimes, espescially if you are still new
to things and that happens to everybody.

Basically when it comes to ranking high it all comes down to backlink, it seems
to me like you already figured it out yourself. So, first do all you on-page seo
and then concentrate on building links by doing the following:

Sign up for UAW 67$/month - Will distribute your articles to other blogs related
    to your niche.

Article Marketing Robot - One time payment.. I don't remember how much it was but it's affordable.

SeoLinkRobot - I would go for SeoLinkRobot since the price is great and
it does it's job right. There are other great softwares but they are too expensive and require monthly payment while this software doesn't.
(It was listed as WSO when I got it so I don't know if payment plan is still
    the same)

Now what you will do is use the drip feed function of UAW and AMR and distribute 10 article with UAW and 10 with AMR each day. Twice a week you will bookmark inner pages of your site and submit the RSS feed using SeoLinkRobot.

If you are ready to put some money in your backlinking then this really works wonders. I am telling you from first hand experience. Lots of my niche sites rank only from using UAW and some manual backlinking (blog commenting...)

But nowadays we got great software so let's use it.

If you don't want to spend money then you can go like this:

    - The first thing you do when you begin your day is create all the backlinks for every site. Submit articles to directories, create web 2.0 properties, blog commenting..

Type this into google to find thousand of edu blogs to comment on:

    site:.edu inurl:blog "post a comment"-"you must be logged in"-"comments closed"

Instead of .edu you can type in .com or .info....... Always leave informartive and realted comments.

So all the best to you and keep it simple.

Cut out all the jargon and mind warp waffle and just get magic submitter which I believe is still on a $4.95 first month trial. While you're using that just learn a bit about on page seo such as keyword density, meta tags etc and you'll be on your way and then it won't seem as complex.

    First wrong forum.

Why are you redirecting your index page url?

    hxxp://www.onesunmediagroup.com/One_Sun/Home.html

Let me guess your building your links to the real index page url, & not the link above?

Eventually you'll think its a simple thing to do SEO, but until than your brain is bound to get exploded once in a while.

Just take it step by step, read some on page stuff, try to implement it, ask questions in forums and go to the next thing: off page (backlinks).

Don't eat all the cake at once, taste a bit, take bigger bites with time and you'll see most of it come to one simple fact: make lots of great sites link to yours

Matt - This thread will likely be moved to the SEO section (which would be good as you may get more responses) but I'll throw in my two cents as I'm partial to the 'Burgh (just spent last week there and saw a Penguins game in the new arena, too! You guys won but what the heck happened to all your players??).

Yes, you can do SEO on your own although there are some benefits to having someone do it for you. Initially, as you're trying to drum up business, it might be fine for you to spend your time building backlinks, writing articles, and tweaking your site but one would hope the goal is to drum up so much business that you're too busy to do your own SEO because you're working on critical tasks such as meeting with clients, writing proposals, scheduling your crew, etc.

To start with, though, there are a few things you can do to gain traction. First, I took a look at the Page Source for your home page. I'm seeing some funny characters in your meta fields. Wherever you've used quotation marks, I'm seeing a blue diamond with a question mark inside. I've never seen that before. Might want to check your code?

While meta keywords are not used by Google, I still use them in my sites in case they're used by any other search engines. Your list of keywords seems way too broad, particularly "steelers, funny videos, penguins, pittsburgh penguins, business, business video, university". Think about the people you want to find your site and what words they might be using in Google to get to you. I'm pretty sure your target audience would never suspect to find you by searching for "penguins".

There are four main strategies I employ when optimizing my sites and they are:

    1. Coding - using H1, H2, and H3 title tags strategically on each page.
    2. Text - Words on your site are like fishing nets you throw out to Google to get traffic. Because of your slick site layout and use of videos (which makes sense in your field), you have very little text on your site. You either need to think of a way to add text to your site to boost your traffic opportunities or rely on articles offsite to get traffic and send it your way (less effective in the long run). You might add a blog or articles section to your site.
    3. Backlinks, backlinks, backlinks. I build Squidoo lenses, hubpages, turn posts into articles, bookmark, blog comment, outsource backlinks, write press releases and on and on and on to build links for my main keywords.
    4. Interlinking pages on the site. Your pages look like they're interlinked as the menu is at the bottom of each page but the Firefox NoDoFollow plugin isn't showing them as links at all because you've used some mapping sort of script to show the menu? I use WP exclusively so I'm not sure how that type of code rates SEO-wise.
This doesn't include any local SEO strategies you should employ to show up in Pittsburgh area listings, too.

    If I were you, I'd:

    1. Look at your code and figure out why those funny diamonds are showing up (or is it just me?).
    2. Do some thorough keyword research. Find five good volume/low competition keywords to get you started.
    3. Rewrite the meta description to be attention grabbing AND informative AND include some of the best keywords you find in step 2.
    4. Make sure you've taken steps to show up in the local listings for your area.
    5. Add a blog section to your site and add one article for each of the keywords you found in step 2. Those articles should point your visitors to other relevant parts of your site.
    6. Start building backlinks to your home page and the article pages through a variety of sources.
    7. Issue some press releases describing the business and work done.
You've also got a great opportunity to use all of those videos you loaded to YouTube for immediate backlinks. Doesn't appear any of them point to your site and you didn't fill in the descriptions. I can think of several ways to craft those descriptions that would benefit you.

I could go on and on but this might help you get started. Good luck!

Matt, it's a bloody tangled jungle out there!

Doing SEO and backlinking and other tasks to seek favor from Google God...

      ...is, well, nightmaresh.

Sometimes...especially on occasions like how you are feeling now,
it's good to do a brain cleanse and really, really think what you are trying to achieve....

      ...as in end results.

My pick is to drive highly qualified visitors to your offer...

...and let the offer sell the damn thing.

If a big company continues to change the rules on you,
kick em' to the gutter and go buy traffic elsewhere.

Yep, I said buy traffic, because those so called free methods
like article marketing, backlinking, bookmarking blog and
forum commenting etc, all take your time, or you gotta pay someone for their time.

Look, I saw a guy on this forum advertising a backlinking service
      for 2 cents each.

For the same price, I sent American only targeted traffic to a dating site.

      That was only yesterday.

And the best part...it's YOU telling how much traffic you want...

...unlike dealing with cold machines like Google.

      Yep you're the BOSS!

Dial in 5,000, 7,000, 50,000 site visitors, and they are yours...

..for the same price as a lousy backlink!

Brett was going mental, because he couldn't get decent traffic
      to his dating site.

Lot of it was crap third world country stuff that don't have the
money to pay for what's on offer.

He didn't have to lift a finger to get 5,000 visitors...
not even stress about fancy banners.

Just said, "Please may I have 5,00 American visitors to my dating site"

      The Merlin appeared and delivered.

The traffic is waiting, do you want it?

      Best,
      Ewen
