What would be the reason for getting inconsistent SERP results? I use a few different tools to check including Rank Tracker, and Mike's Marketing Tools - it seems that when I run the results one time, I'll get a position 8, then I can run it later in the day and i'll be anywhere from 97 to 117. What's up with this?

I also run a search through scroogle scraper, and conducting a search this way verifies my results from above. I can run the search once and i'll be in position 13, then i'll run it a few minutes later, and i'll be anywhere from 96 to south of 100.

If i'm getting these results, does that mean that when a user conducts a search for my key word, then it can be unpredictable as to my actual position?

I monitor my sites rankings with Rank Tracker and see the same activity on a new site and completely normal, usually stabilizes within a month - AKA Google Dance.. How old is your site??

Thanks for the reply. My site is not even a month old at this point. So when it does stabilize, will it be at the higher rank? I just curious as to which rank check to trust at this point, and if I should be scaling up or down my backlink efforts.

Thats weird, scroogle scraper always was consistent for me. Maybe your site is jumping around a bit, try checking it after a few hours.

I'm seeing the same thing with two of my less than year old sites. One time of the day, I'm on the first page, but then two hours later, nowhere to be found. It's like I finally to get to first page, and somebody just flips a switch and the site is gone just as quickly as it appeared. It's not like it falls back a few spots or to the previous page either. It just disappears altogether? Just ran it again before I posted this, and now I'm back on page 1 again in about the 5th spot for my keyword? Crazy!!!

One site was on page one almost all day a few days back. Then it disappeared until I I found it on the first page earlier today. Now a couple of hours later, it's completely gone yet again?

New sites and new terms that you rank for can jump around. Always try to be consistent in your SERP checking. Find a tool you like and use it. If you see upward or downward movement, it is likely real movement, unlike using multiple tools that can give different results from others.

Have you given our SERP checking site a try? It is in my signature. We are working on some tweaks for parsing google a little better, but most people find it is a good tool...and free.
