1 week old site on page 8 for my keyword term. Should I buy a bunch of links?

I launched my website about a week ago, and I was finally indexed by google! The keywords I am going for is "voip home phone service" and I am currently on page 8 for that term. I used keyword elite, to try to get this, but it seems like I could use some advice. This keyword seems to be very competitive, but I have been slowly building links, and adding more content to my site, and looking to get to page 1. Would buying a whole bunch of links help my ranking? even if they aren't related? so tempted. . .

NO you should build a bunch of links naturally. you do that link buying the wrong way and you get Google sandboxed (off of their search).

      Yep, what he said.

that doesn't mean you can't buy links. just don't go and hammer the site with a bunch of links you bought off of fiverr or other cheap/quick deals, it might work for a quick boost but you'll be fighting with the rankings for A LOT longer

Don't get too tempted - it may cause tough times ahead. Right now, keep building links slowly but steadily. After 1 month, increase the link building rate to around twice of today. After 2 months, increase the link building rate to around four times of today (twice of the next month).

You should be in top-5 for this keyword with that within 3 months. Don't try and kill a goose that lays golden eggs by hurrying.

  • Thank you guys so much. I will be patient and build links slowly, and focus on really good content too. Any other advice would be great. Thanks!

No. Be natural, mix up your keyword phrase a bit and give it time.

Rushing is what gets a lot of sites dumped in the sandbox.

Also, forget you are on page 8. Drive traffic. You don't need first page of Google to make money. Focus on driving traffic, not so much on making links and ranking. Ranking will come naturally over time.

I think that, due to Google's new algorithm change, we need to chill before buying any links.

A lot of heavily-linked, high-visibility sites have lost MAJOR traffic now that the new Farmer / Panda algorithm is running things at Google.

Take a "wait 'n see" position re: buying a bunch of links. Let's understand if doing this is a setup for major disaster. It could be that the whole link-buying industry is either completely on it's way out of business, or they're going to have to re-write the way they're currently doing business.

It's too soon to tell, and too risky to be the overly eager chump who pays to get black-listed.

Buying/selling bulk links is basically one of the things which puts most of the sites into sandbox!

Google likes natural link's which can be done manually & slowly,

don't get tempted or else you will be regretting your decision in the future

Where do most of these purchased links come from? Are they simply domains set up to serve as space for people to sell links from?

Go ahead and buy those links, if you're afraid of getting slapped take an hour or so and setup a few web2.0 properties that link to your money, then blast the 2.0s. Most of the people giving advice here probably don't SEO for a living and are simply parroting what they've been told over the years by "the gurus".

The sandbox is not something to fear. It's not the end of the world. In fact, I look forward the Google dance (especially after a heavy backlinking campaign) because then I KNOW my site will be ranking in a good position shortly after. There seriously is NO POINT in building links "slowly".

Good for you on the Index.

Now...you can get better positioning by doing a couple of things.

      First...submit your site to Digg.

Go to 3StepAds.com..write an ad for your site. You can use images here. Minimum 3-400 words I think...but it's an ad site..so you can talk about YOUR site.

Go to GoArticles, and submit an article. Minimum 300 words, no images, no duplicate content. No delay on publishing here. Use your keyword in the title, and at about 1% density in content. Used finely focused anchor text for your links ( I think 2 are allowed..check submission policy)

Guaranteed better than page 8 in 3 days or less.

      Good luck!

These people are obviously talking out their asses and could care less about your best interests. They get off on posting useless garbage that they haven't actually tested out themselves and they get gratification from being seen as some sort of internet authority.

Or something.... Frankly I don't know why people keep posting crap they know nothing about. It actually boggles my mind. I guarantee you none of these people have actually ranked for anything in their entire life.

Take Landis Phans advice on the SEO, but honestly dude...

voip home phone service 880 broad 210 exact.

The search volume to competition is not even remotley worth it. Find a keyword with at least 3000-5000 [EXACT] searches not BROAD, with a CPC of 2$+, something with low competition and use your other domain as a tester for link building.

Never i repeat Never listen to what every single Dbag on the forums tells you. When in doubt, ask for credentials.

That way if they give you more false information, at least the karma will bite them in the ass twice as hard.

Let's not get into the debate above, in which you practically talk about everyone posting here. It's not nice.

True. But the best monetization may be (or may not be) enough to offset that. Plus, with the increase of VOIP phones increasing around the world, it may not be a bad niche.

But to stick to the point, the number of searches is irrelevant with respect to what the OP asked. The OP is asking a SEO question and this point here address niche quality determination - two independent arts.

Most of the people that are giving advice are inexperienced in the "art of seo". Classic case of the blind leading the blind. To the OP: Ultimately its up to you, but getting advice from a professional would do you more good then advice from a lot of people that don't really do seo.

Don't buy links until you build a bunch of natural links. Write and submit few articles to article dirictories, bookmark you site and articles twice a week, add new content to site. It's not so hard to rank with 5-10 long tail keywords than to rank with 1-2 keywords with high competition.
If you have ranking and trafic, you can buy few high PR links. It will be natural for Google.

Dont just through a bunch of backlinks....I have a site which has only 125 backlinks but guess what it is ranking for 18 of my best money making keywords...so building backlinks naturally is always a good thing and the Big-G loves it..

There was an article I read (which I believe) stating that 60% of G's criteria is still through backlinks even after the algo change

IMO the sandbox effect = G dance nothing more.

I put up a site three weeks ago with competitive keywords and slammed it with 50k backlinks before it was even indexed and I was on page 1 within two weeks. I've backlinked all my sites fast in various amounts and have NEVER had any problems.

Listen to Landis Phan, they know what they're talking about.

The key is to have well-rounded backlinks.

Also interested in voip industry, used to rank for "voip phone", with my domain voiphone.com, didn't get any success. Nice to see that you did it with a fresh domain name.

I did a lot of research, and used google and the wonder wheel and keyword elite, etc. I am currently working on improving my content. Content is KING, so I will focus on that as well.

Yay today I am on page 7

No.. don't the reality is this is how the Google Algo works.

It looks for fresh content all the time.

As a rule of thumb I try to add at least 2 pages of content with excerpts to the home page for every site I have every month.

Remember Google sees inner pages as links as well, just onsite links.

Your keyword is not much hard to rank.
But don't buy any links just build it naturally.
Try directory submission and blog commenting.

And if you need to buy links then i suggest to buy some blog posts reviewing your site and linking to your site.
