How to rank a video in YouTube search engine?

Hey warriors,

I am creating a lot of videos and putting them on youtube. I noticed that some videos rank quite well, some of them not, because of the competition.

I think I could easily beat that competition, but the problem is that I don't actually know what affect rankings in YouTube search engine...

I think the number of comments, video responses and "likes" affect the rankings, but how about backlinks? Do they affect rankings?

Please don't keep secrets

P.S.
Even I don't know anything about that, I am still getting a few subscribers every day from YouTube, it is really powerful and everything works on 100% autopilot

It is the number of links being sent.

In my opinion it has nothing to do with views or comments or ratings.

It works just like any other page on the web, but videos are a bit easier to rank because they follow a slightly different algo.

Its about sharing the video - how many people are sharing on their portals - obviously some bookmarks at the end of the day - on social sites - back linked as 'authoritative video'.

    Hello:

I haven't done it in a while and these things change, but a couple of years ago it was all about # of views. Of course put your keywords in the title, description, and tags. Choose your keywords properly too - just as you would for a website - not too competitive. It doesn't hurt to have a sexy girl show up in the preview frame either. That used to be done by timeframe.

Well exactly but sharing counts as a link to the video. People can share it yes, but if I do a link building campaign from high pr websites I would win.

Tags, Tags, and more Tags! This is key. Remember your video is in Flash format (which the search spiders can't see).

Relevant titles. This means the keywords you want to "rank" for need to be in the title.

Transcription. It's a royal pain in the ass, but the company I worked for had about 30 videos. Once we wrote down what was said in the video and added it to the description our views shot up like a rocket.

Why? Because the content of the video was now placed in the description box--which the search bot can most definitely see. Again, though, its a royal pain in the ass.

You might want to read the this article:

Youtube Optimization & Youtube Video Search Ranking Factors

They give some good basic guidelines and link to some other good resources.

I have always gone by the theory of researching my tags and titles for competition just like I would for possible phrases to use on blogs, articles, and other content. Then it comes down to Video SEO. Backlinks, Likes, Views, Subscribers, lack of flags, and magic fairy dust.

Okay, so here is what I've figured out so far from this thread:

    1. I should put a keyword in the title

    2. I should get a maximum amount of views, "likes', comments, video responses

    3. I should get people to share my video, so I need to entertain

    4. I shouldn't forget to put some tags

    5. I should write a description with keywords

    Any more suggestions?

Well, I was going to suggest transcribing the audio for the same reason as mentioned above, the more words, the more the search engines have to work with.

Again Matt it really depends on how competitive the link is.

Let's say that you wanted to rank for "I had a dream by Susan Boyle", then it's going to be really hard. But if you wanted to rank for 'American apples in Saudi Arabia' then no problem.

My 2 cents on how the YouTube Algo works is that you have to just drive links to it as per usual. In fact if you are into marketing you really want to have people watch the video and 'take action'.

So matt drive backlinks like any other web page and things will work out.But just ensure you get the keyword research right.

      Good luck!

    Matt,
I have had this discussion with some internet marketing experts in the Dallas area, and here is what I have come up with as a conservative metric:

If the main Google KW Tool says a particular phrase (a keyword which is either geographic-specific or not) has X number of searches per month (e.g. 1000 searches/month) then you should be conservative and assume that there is a 1% to 5% crossover of people who would search for the term on YouTube.

Use 1% (or even slightly less) for a commodity service such as "City dry cleaner". If 1000 people a month type it into Google (according to the KW Tool) then assume that no more than 10 people (1%) would type the same thing into YouTube. Probably less in this case!

If the phrase lends itself to more video-specific psychology, such as "City things to do" (for a local phrase) or "sports equipment reviews" (for a national phrase), then assume a slightly higher percentage such as 2% or 3% of the Google KW Tool demand (# of searches) would be entering the same phrase in YouTube.

Again, these figures are open to debate.

Ideally, you are using YouTube as a social network where you share, comment, subscribe, "like", give video responses, and offer either informative and/or entertaining content. Of course, be sure to drive links to the video (properly optimized) to give your video a fighting chance of appearing in the main Google results for the same keyword phrase.

    Hope this helps!

Get more likes and comments to your video. This is obvious, but I have read that making backlinks just like what you do with a usual website can benefit a youtube video's ranking as well. All of these are possible to be outsourced via fiverr.

Okay, so I was doing some video marketing now and here is what I figured out:

Traditional on page SEO is very important (keywords in title in the descritpion, tags).

Another thing that is very important is number of views. The number of likes and dislikes in mys tests are not so important.

Also, building backlinks is one of the most important parts.

This is a problem many people have... Its not about the "likes" the Links or even the comments Titles or Even the Tags!...

its about the timing and the number in which you get these things.

I actually have a video SEO coaching course I'm doing very soon, showing what I learned in studying Youtubes algorithm for months and how I got my videos to dominate not only youtube for GURUs names, clickbank products, and MLM Companies but dominate the #1 position on GOOGLE for those keywords as well

Your title, description, yahoo compatible elements, etc. count
      for something.

Bakclinks to a video count for nothing. Backlinking to a video
on youtube serves no real purpose. It's not a link to a
website. A video exists in cyberspace. The page google puts
in on youtube is dynamically created each time you view
the video. It's not a static page.

The vast majority of video searchers do so directly on
      youtube.

They love viral videos, but yes, relevancy can beat that.

Viral and relevancy is a hard to beat combination.

Backlinks to a video on youtube can only help if the
person actually clicks on the link to view the video.
Then your view count goes up.

If you want your views to go up, embed your video on
a webpage and spin it in traffic exchanges.

Build backlinks to your youtube channel. Now that's
      a real webpage.

You should add your videos with the keyword title to other video networks and build backlinks to each site the video is located on. If you don't want to do it yourself outsource the linkbuilding or find distribution services for links and video such as submitedge or wlmarketing
