Everybody stresses that in order to rank in google that you need to have a site with a article on it with good kw density etc...

My question is how is it that I see sites like this
Best Liverpool Locksmiths | 24 Hour Locksmiths Liverpool

Ranking for more than one kw?
(this is just a sample not an actual site than i'm talking about)

Im currently wanting to go the offline consulting route and I was wondering how I could get a site like the one above ranking for multiple kw's.

Thank you

If you google click here, you'll notice that adobe reader, adobe, apple, java, real player and cnn video are all on page 1, along with clickhere.com, a marketing agency. Only 1 of the top 10 sites is "optimized" for the phrase click here. (clickhere.com) 9/10 of the sites on page 1 for click here are there because of anchor text links... because of all the webmasters that make links that say 'click here to download..."

Anchor text is a powerful way of optimizing for a phrase that's not even on the page.
Exact match is another way (hence clickhere.com being on page 1), but don't under estimate the power of anchor text links.

the domain is local and very close to exact keyword phrase. It has all the basic pages, 35 pages indexed in google, and 4 backlinks in yahoo.

For local clients, the city in the domain is a plus. What I do is to add a video to the service to sneak on first page with youtube while the site gains momentum.

    Sandra probably nailed this good.
How many locksmiths are there in Merseyside, not that many, how many of those are franchises? quite a few, so that probably leaves just a handful of locksmiths with good websites and good seo, out of those, the seo for the phrases on this one is probably tight with other sites targeting other words, so bingo.
I would suspect this site could be knocked off the top spot very easily.

Exactly. Searching with quotes for "best liverpool locksmiths" I only see 72 results. Heck, even this very WF thread ranks #8 for the keyword!

Thank you all for your reply...

So Im assuming If I have a site like the 1st one that I gave and its has my main kw in the domain and a couple of time throughout the site, If I want to also rank for 5 more kw's thats not on my site such as "cheap liverpool locksmiths" etc...all I would have to do is create a bunch of backlinks with that anchor txt pointing back to my site?

Google just not rely the ranking in article, they have many ways to get rank. The other one is creating backlink to the other site, not just a normal backlinks but high PR backlinks. The most important also that your keyword must be on your title, Url, header and to your description. If you perform all of that in proper way you will rank high be Google.

Not to be vague, but backlinks and proper SEO will get a site ranked with little or no content. In fact, only backlinks and proper anchor text are necessary. I've ranked sites with no content, and even sites without WP even being installed yet!

This is true, but some good quality content really helps. I personally believe that google is cracking down on sites with little content. At the end of the day they want the best experience for the user, which means sites with good content.

Quality content doesn't have to be on-page text (articles).

My own sites content have to be inside of a zip file. I know my way around the web, & this (zip file) is the only practical way to handle this type of content.

I know my content is quality from the response I've had over the years from my steady repeat traffic.

Google can't read what's inside a zip file, so I seo the heck out of everything else I have to work with on-page.

I've never wrote a single article for any of my sites. I have something around 4,000 pages total (all hand built pages) for all my sites, each page has around 10 words total per page (besides internal anchor-text links).

It's actually very easy to rank a page without articles, your page isn't being diluted with worthless text.

I go heavy with the on-page seo, & authority backlinks (with keyword anchor-text whenever possible).

Maybe the competition is too low, there are many basis why it ranked without a good quality content.
