Just wondering if search engines want all backlinks to natural. Can we bild links on our own? I know we can, just wondering if search engines allow themselves manual link building. Or they just want all links to be natural?

From what we hear from Matt Cutts of Google, they all are in favour of natural links, that is someone finding our site content valuable and recommending to their readers through their websites or blog posts.

But it may not be always realistic. Let's say you build up a minisite and want to rank on the first page of google. What will you do? Wait till others find your blog and start linking (natural) or you yourself get backlinks from other websites?

I'll go for the second option, that is linkbuilding, on the way if my content is of top quality I will also acquire links naturally.

So there is no harm in building links, unless you are not blasting tens and thousands of links using automated softwares.

    Thanks.

As of yet, have not read anything that would indicate that "link building" is a problem.....
    at this time..
Who knows what may be next?

yes, I also wonder how Google would view regular, natural, unspun article submissions. I'm doing a law firm website so I can't risk any punishment from google

You will not get punished for any amount of linking you do. Use all the auto submission softwares you like. I do and it works a charm. The only thing you will ever get punished for is your on page seo, not your backlinking efforts.

I have never heard any search engine saying that link building is allowed. Getting natural backlinks is very difficult unless you own an authority site

        You mean keyword stuffing everywhere?

Yes, keyword stuffing and linking out to dubious websites will and can get you penalized. At the end of the day, you are in control of your sites' content, but not totally in control of what sites link back to yours. Google knows this and thus will only realistically penalize anyone because of bad outbound links or keyword stuffing.

You are 100% correct. SE's will not punish you. You forgot to mention that SE's will not reward you either if they find out your backlinks were artificially created.

It is pretty much impossible to get a brand new website ranking without building backlinks. How would people get there in the first place if you weren't in google or using PPC.

I am not talking about getting rankings or not. I am just asking whether search engines allow link building or not.

I think aslong as its not considered a black hat method you should be fine. Try exchanging links with sites in your niche.

No, manual link-building is still considered as legal as long as you follow to the provided guidelines by search engines.

just build links and dont worry about that. The last thing you need to be is paranoid which will only lead to procrastination which then leads to no work getting done which leads to potential income being wasted!

I think no one knows how the Google rank the sites. They required to build the backlinks naturally. Using backlinking software and suspicious backlinking might results your site to Sand box. So be careful.
