BIG Changes Coming! - A New Google? Rankings & How Advertising IS Done! WHOA!

Hi Guys,

Over the last few weeks, I have had the pleasure of meeting a big search engine gurus.

He told me the space of the webisphere will soon change, and people are sick of google (including me).

He rambled on but I listened as he has a strong accent. Some of you might know who i am talking about. The mood of social, media and publishing online will soon change big time.

There is this perception that these big search engine just care about money and have lost their way, to them page ranks and methods of algorithms are important and they think it is helping, but it is actually cluttered with many junk sites, ads and affiliate offers.

If you do have offers on Google, Yahoo MSN, Bing and you think that customers dont mind this. Guess again, most of these people are switched on, and actually hate these things.

The more they are faced with purchased ads from advertisers, the more people realise they are getting bombarded with affiliate offers, ads, junk emails, television shows, radio ads... people are getting a sour taste in their mouth when they search.

He said they can no longer tell if their search results are genuinely going to help them, or is just some spammed advertiser blurting an ad in their face promoting a product and for them to buy now. In a recent survey conducted most people want this form of what they call SPAM to stop!

He was saying there is investors who are coming up with some sort of NEW search engine that could replace google, or become an equivalent. People are sick of google. This search engine would replace old ways with new ways of keeping business and results organised.

Simply put the engine will run differently and it will be alot easier to find real geniune sites, without having to sort through crappy garbage and advertising offers. Most likely there will be no form of adwords or similar advertising to clutter the pages with, while the user is surfing. Apparently it will be totally different.

YES, you hearing me right. There will be almost no advertising. Or none at all. This web browser is going to be advertising free. The annoying sites that steal peoples content will not get a chance with this as there will not be any money to be made on this.

Eventually he told me that advertising and spending thousands on Google adwords or yahoo, could start to be a dormant and a something in past, when people realise the new technology on offer. I thought about that for a second. It would go viral very quickly to spam haters across the world. Just think of that.

I think the average person who uses search engines in 2011 does not want to be bombarded with advertising as they are searching each day. Instead of adwords, spam, marketing and stolen content people want real hard core info, you know that is credible and authentic.

He said in a way we will be going back to the good old days, when search engines were just that. An engine to search and find really good info quickly. NO nuisenses, and annoyances in the process.

He did not give me a timeline, but he said it is coming soon.

Please save this thread and see if this actually happens. He was so passionate and excited when he was talking.

anywho..... What do you think about this?

Would this be catastrophic to marketers and especially affiliate marketers??

People forget that google owns, blogger, picasa, android, feedburner, gmail and youtube. They also have massive stakes in US and Brazilian internet backbone infrastructre and are now moving into tv and media.

I tend to agree with MYOB. He sold you some B.S. But if you look at History and How many other Search Engines Have come AND GONE since Google has been around. Google is still at the TOP of the Totem Pole.

Let's all salute the BS Flag going up! Heh Heh, just kidding - but Google isn't going anywhere anytime soon as they have too much market share. I could see an open source project from the likes of say mozilla coming up with a super search engine that is virtually ad free but i don't think will replace Google's status as the #1 search engine.

I haven't any Thanks buttons, so a comment will have to do.

        You nailed my exact thoughts!

        Remember Cuil?

The hype about Cuil was just as strong as the search engine guru fed to Celente. LOL

Before Cuil was the other Google-killer, Ask.com. That worked out well. They changed their target market again after only a six-month run as the latest, greatest Google-killer app.

This one remains unnamed, and I can betcha I know the outcome of this Google-killer too. :p

What most people in the search engine space fail to realize is that it is not the site with the "best search engine results" that will win the game, but the site with more "habitual users".

This is the reason that Bing has been fighting an uphill battle for more than two years. Google users use it out of habit, and in order for a better search engine to take market share, it must convince web surfers to change their habits.

Have you ever tried to quit smoking?

"Breaking the habit" is the most difficult element of changing ones' life for the better or otherwise.

That's EXACTLY how Google started out around 2000.

I shifted from using other engines to Google ONLY BECAUSE
they threw up RELEVANT results on the first page.

It's also why I no longer like using Google to FIND things.

      My 2 cents

I will have to respectfully disagree..

Google is huge and their updates are filtering out the transparent crap and advertisement sites because they want the user to have a good search experience.

Back then, a search query did not return completely relevant results. The internet has changed massively since then and the same old technology simply won't filter the junk that is out there today.

This is why the complex formulas, the constant updates. If Google laid stagnant for too long, the formulas could be gamed by thin money-making sites and fraudulent activity.

In my opinion, the adds displayed at the top and side of the Google results pages in rather discrete in my opinion. Everyone knows where they and if they should click on them.

Google is your friend, and as long as you optimize your onpage as well as your offpage naturally and ethically, the Google updates will allow you to float to the top with minimal effort.

Sure, there are many other traffic/lead generation tools but when used correctly, the big G wins hands down.

Even if it did happen, which I somehow doubt (not for years to come anyway), it won't have much of an effect on affiliate marketers.

Affiliate marketers should not be seen as money-grubbing spammers, although a lot of dubious people out there give them that appearance.

An affiliate marketer should be a person who genuinely cares about the products he is marketing and he provides unique and high quality non-biased information to the visitor. The visitor should happily click through to the product from his link knowing the affiliate will get a commission in return for facilitating the order.

This affiliate marketer should be welcome in any new wave. - A lot of the other money-grubbing marketers should be filtered out in my opinion.

I guess this is the part I agree with very strongly.

It's not fair that we have been given such a bad name. I myself see affiliate marketing as a new flourishing business model, one that we all should embrace.

Yet many people are still not aware what the internet can do for them and I really think this should change. It's not something we should be against and try to defeat.

Perhaps affiliate marketing has been given a bad name, because many people use it wrongly. But that doesn't mean we all have to suffer.

I don't know about y'all but I don't plan to get back to a job for the rest of my life. Plus, how is google ever going to survive if they quit Adwords and ban all advertising. That's like business suicide.

To hell with these big gurus who spout such nonsense. Until you've walked the server rooms @ Google, and talked to several engineers about why the vectoring engine is being ungraded to handle a heavier spider agent that goes out and does correlations based on a set number of criterias..I'll just look at what you've said with less than a grain of salt. Sorry to be blunt, but pie in the sky visions does not equate to a reality.

Of course search engines care about money. Any company that is incorporated has a legal obligation and responsiblity to make a profit for their shareholders.

Here is the problem with what the guru friend said... you talk about junk sites and affiliate offers and pitches... but those are in the organic results even more than the paid ads, and that junk doesn't make money for Google.

So, the "junk" in Google results has nothing to do with Google wanting to turn profit. It has more to do with all the people hawking "google backdoor" programs and their desire to make profit. lol.

A new search engine is not a solution. Any search engine that gets even close to Google's size is going to be pounced on by every black hat and grey hat AND white hat, because everyone who has a website wants traffic. That's not ever going to change.

I definitely think that search quality has and will continue to improve and that google will show favour to sites that have unique tightly written content that's relevant. It has said it doesn't like a higher ratio of ads to written content on sites.

I think if you provide what Google wants that it's actually easier to rank with your own sites than with some web 2.0 sites in my honest opinion.

Just follow good marketing practices and you shouldn't be affected -- and you shouldn't believe everything you hear either.

    regards

Wont happen, and i can tell you why.

Google will not only roll out and promote CHROME like crazy, they want EVERYONE surfing on Google proprietary browsers and a "Google Net", using Google apps like email, data sharing etc.

Which means you wont even have the options anymore to block ads *IF* all people blindly follow Google.

Oh yes..dont we even have a "Google Laptop" already which is "free" (cough cough) with a hardcoded Google chrome browser...and no way to block ads?

You are right, people aren't stupid.

When they search for a problem and they can see the solution in the Sponsored Listings they will click them, happily.

People realise that they have to pay for some things. People often search for things they are prepared to pay for. Clicking on an ad to get to that 'thing' is actually a benefit to them. They get what they want - fast!

If people are looking for information and they don't want to pay for then they will click through the first couple of results until they get the solution. Click through rates on the front page of Google indicate that the searcher does get the answer on the front page, and most of the time in the first couple of results. They aren't being mislead as they are getting what they want first go, for the majority of the time.

Google also knows it is important that they don't mislead their searcher too much as it means a lower return for their advertisers. They only want real customers going to a Sponsored Listing to make it profitable for the advertiser. If the advertiser isn't happy and the searcher isn't happy then both parties lose - and so does Google.

Google is also working on (and apparently trailing Bing in this department) using the searcher's response to pages to actually influence the search results. It is like a measurement for bounce-rate but without using on-site stats.

Bing and Google know the importance of giving the user what they want. It helps their bottom line, even if the searcher doesn't always click on an ad.

Google probably isn't the best place to advertise affiliate products if you don't know how to sell them properly, but that is the shortcoming of the marketer, not the advertising platform.

I think Alta Vista used be pretty big stuff (I was young so I don't really know). Netscape was the best browser in the world, etc... There's always something better that comes along.

The AFL used to be the big dog...

People used to care about the NHL and NBA

MLB used to be America's past time...

Something will come along that's better than Google eventually, and Google will likely buy it.

Google won't go quietly - they're a household name. People even use their brand name as a verb for "searching the web."

I've heard this many times as well.. In fact the owner of adgooroo.com was making similar claims - saying that Google will change drastically.

Truth is - they change all of the time. Sometimes we know (like the recent farmer update) and sometimes the changes are so small we never hear about it. Google is getting better at what they're doing.

That doesn't mean something new can't come along and become the "new Google."

The point is that this has not happened yet.

Do NOT let stuff like this slow you down or stop you from taking action. If you did you'd never get anything done.

Right now Google is king as far as search engines go. Whether it will still be king 5 years from now still remains to be seen but it sure won't go down without a fight. Google has the money and the talent to make sure that they remain on top.
They are well aware of what the consumer wants and will find a way of giving them that without having to sacrifice their profits.
The rest of us are the ones to decipher what they are up to and adapt accordingly.
