Does this mean they aren't indexed in google?

or does google webmaster not necessarily pick them up to still be in google itself?

I know I'm still not on the serps at all for my keyword last I checked.

Remember you will not see anyway all links what you have because Google protects website owners from checking out other websites for backlinks.

Google doesn't count all the links. It counts only quality back links. So, always build quality back links to get high search engine rankings in Google.

    Well what defines quality?

I have been doing blog commenting and people always say blog commenting is a good way for ranking so presumably that counts..

most of the backlink checker available over the internet are grabbing links data from yahoo explorer so its not necessary that same link would appear in Google webmaster tool as well .

google will never show backlinks to protect website owners, and it seems that yahoo started not to update the backlink either, and they only show 1000 of the backlinks. Try a tool i don't know how it's called exactly, but it shows you all the backlinks and it costs something like 100 euro's a month good luck

How do I know if it's follow or no follow?

If it's follow then when I use a backlink checker and the blogs I posted on show up then it was follow right?

I'm pretty sure that it just takes a while before backlinks show up. Perhaps they're not registered or indexed with the search engine yet. I've posted articles, have links been posted (quality, like PR3-4 and above) and dofollow forum/blog comments that haven't had their backlinks show up in a month or so!

There are tools for every browser that check if links on blogs and forums are dofollow or nofollow; the nofollow links are usually shown in red!

I never pay attention to the number of backlinks I have submitted. It's absolutely frivolous information. The only rankings that count are in the serps.

Google shows all your Backlinks but this need time and a lot of backlinks. When they trust you, then they show your backlinks.

Yeah i agree with diayakapoor, you can never rely on google when checking of backlinks, they only shows quality and most probably dofollow links and Backlink Checker(If i'm correct, are you referring to Backlinkwatch?) because this tool is also depending on Yahoo site explorer.

Google is very sensitive when it comes to quality of the links.

Yeah, Google tends to be pretty limited on the backlinks they show. Which is why most utilities pull data from Yahoo.
