Which would you prefer 10,000 profile links or one PR page link?

I know in specific terms its impossible to say but just want to find out where people's heads are at.

Which would you rather? See poll

As a follow up question to those that choose the PR 2 - why do you suppose people pay hundreds of dollars in software, backlink packages and outsourcing rather than get solid PR2+ links?

I voted for PR 2. When I built my first site I only built a few links but they were all high quality ones and got PR1 after a few months.

On the other hand, I have a blog with 6.000 links from comments and blogrolls and - no PR

Here's another vote for the PR 2 link. As for why people neglect them:

A link like this would likely come from a guest post. This would require building relationships, writing quality content, you know hard stuff

Automatic link building programs are EASY. You hide behind your computer and click a few buttons - no stressful relationship building, no time-consuming content creation.

    I can tell you why.

Most people (when they first start IM) believe that having a large quanity of backlinks is how you rank a page.

It's what we picked up from being kids, "having more of something has to be better".

I think later on in their IM learning they figure out, that's not how things work with seo. By then they have already spent the money on the magic software that will solve all their backlinking problems.

Live & learn, authority links rule!

    Let me also say this,

I voted the PR2 in the poll, still you'll have exceptions to this & PR doesn't always mean authority.

    Example:

I created a wikipedia page (new page = PR0), this new page has about 50 wikipedia internal links pointing at my new wiki page. Those old internal wiki links range from PR0 to PR6. The new wiki page I created with a baccklink pointing to my own site/page had me ranking on the first page for my keyword very fast.

Again, PR isn't the only thing that matters. In the example above (wiki backlink) I bet my PR0 will give an average (non-wiki) PR2 a run for the money.

thing is though PR is updated internally daily and that link stands to not be a PR 0 for long. Its just showing it because the PR facing the public is only updated periodically. But yes PR is not all that matters. Couldn't really do a poll with all the things that matter

If I need to rank the keywords in search engines, then i would prefer the 1st one.

If i need to get page rank to my site, then i would go for last option.
