I have found a few forums in my niche and have visited them in the hopes of contributing to the conversations but also to help obtain back links. My issue is most of them so far I do not like or it is way to complicated to figure out how to even activate the signature links.

I enjoy this forum the most, have learned the most and found it easy to figure it all out!! but this forum isn't really in my niche! Anyone know of good forums like this one for an app developer? iphone? android apps? something!!

I think I just find these topics more helpful and interesting!!
Also, this forum is not really technically in my niche but would the back links still help??

Yes non relevant forum links still help, that is why people get tons of forum links. Relevant forum links are a little more helpful.

There is no doubt that forums are the great source for getting back links but the most best thing about this these are the best source of solving queries or gathering knowledge too.

I had this problem in the golf niche believe it or not.

All forum mods and die-hard contributors bagged me out and I had a very hard time finding dofollow forums in my niche that allowed sig links.

Keep trying, there are litterally millions of forums in most niches so you will find a few easy ones in time. The trouble with most of them is that you need to invest a bit of time to find out if they are even worth it or not.

The links in your sig now will help a lot anyway so keep them and diversify your link-building too.

Forum sig links are more about direct traffic for me. As long as you provide quality content in your niche often and people like what you have to say, you can bet they might be interested in what you put in your sig links. (unless they are affiliate links)

If you are doing it through relevant forums, just keep on posting with your signature. Each post will be a link.

With the latest update Google is thought to have devalued forum links. However a link is a link, and it is still better than nothing.

Choosing forums for promoting purpose is yet another method to get feedback from people. Having your website in forums is an effective way of promoting your website.

Forum submission is always free, and it is the place where people love to discuss on some topics by posting a question or by answering a question. People find forums as an interesting one, as it makes them participate in the discussions.

How can you tell or find out if the forum is dofollow or not

When you look at one of the thread pages for that forum, right click on the page and select "View source" or similar depending on your browser.

Then simply do a search/find on the page (Ctrl-F) and look for "href=" or "<a " to find the links and scan them for the words rel=nofollow. Alternatively, you could do a search for the term "nofollow" and if there are none at all on the page then it is good.

Be aware that some sites will use a combination. So although links on their pages may be fine, perhaps all signature links are marked nofollow.

Why not very simply install the NoDoFollow :: Add-ons for Firefox and just toggle it on and off to view dofollow links in purple and nofollow links in red/orange.

Yes, good point - provided they are using Firefox.

Sometimes it is good to understand what is happening under the hood as it were, so that if you don't have these extensions or add-ons or they stop working with a new version of the browser you are not left reliant on them.

          Regards,

I think it is more important that you are getting direct quality traffic of people interested in your site than to worry about the little bit of link juice that you receive. There are so many people posting their links that it becomes saturated.

Also, if you are going to find a relevant forum in your niche and post on there, I would recommend you keep no links in your sig until you have 20 posts or so. I have been banned several times, when I had posted completely relevant content and answered a few questions, just because my signature had a link to my site.

Yeah. People are pretty paranoid about that stuff. There has definitely been a souring to anyone putting promotional links in signatures in a forum.

About the plug-in, there are people out there who are a lot more comfortable with checking the page source out. Take for instance, me. I like seeing code than just seeing some text highlighted in pink if it's has the rel="nofollow" attribute.

About the forum links, I'd have to go to the answer that says that relevant links are helpful. The thing about link building in the forums doesn't completely rest in the hands of the links in your signature. You can also share some relevant links in the posts if the forums allow it.

A backlink always remains a backlink. It doesnt matter it is from relevant forum or not. If it will from relevant forum, it will help to drive the quality traffic of the people who would be interested in your product/service for real.
