hi there,
i have a site that get lots of visitor and have ad an active forum for years.
I never did any thing for the SEO since my user were coming from other places.

im now starting to take care of my seo, adding content and backlinks.

The thing is, i didnt know that for all those years but the forum i had was set as 'Disallow' in the robot.txt file, which means all the forum posts were never indexed.

im now thinking of making the forum indexed to show google i have lots of dynamic content.

the thing is, if i let a huge amount of post to get indexed in one go, wouldn't google slap me ? i mean its a huge amount of pages suddenly getting indexed.

should i be worried or not ?

what should i do ?

Thanks!

You should be fine, may make you google dance for a bit, but you would not get slapped for that.

If the pages aren't even indexed then I wouldn't worry much about a Google slap... Personally, I would just let Google index it all. It can only help as opposed to not getting indexed at all. Others may not agree..

LOL! That is the craziest thing I've heard here yet. Worried
about too many pages being indexed! Man oh man, where do you
people keep coming up with this stuff????

You want stuff indexed! And lots of it! The more the merrier!

Now after I compose myself, I do have to give a word about
forums. You have to be a great moderator and keep up with
the spam. If your forum becomes spam-city, it will turn into
      a junk yard.

All of the posts won't get indexed anyway. Google will be quite
choosy, until you build up some authority. Since the whole thing
has been effectively offline you have no history with google to
      work with.

You should be worried about too little indexed, not too much.

First we worry about too many backlinks too fast, now we worry about
too much content indexed too fast. Someone should write a book.

Lol i guess i was wrong. thanks for the comments guys.
i know that when you start a new wordpress blog you dont want to post 20 posts in one day.. and its better to schedule them over time. this is where i took the assumption that it might do bad.

i thought i rather be safe to ask then sorry..

This won't hurt you in getting more organic traffic. Give it a try for a month and you will see the difference.
