High PR do follow govt sites - anchor text query?

Hi all

By good fortune I have discovered 2 govt sites in my country with 100's of commentable pages varying in PR from 2 - 5. The great thing is there are next to no comments on the pages from others and they are do follow. A real gold mine!

Here is my problem. After a few tests, they only post comments if I use well thought out comments and dont use a spammy keyword name. I can handle doing decent comments on such high PR pages, but is making these comments still worth it considering the anchor text will be irrelevant?

Given the high PR and the ability to literally make 100's of posts throughout these sites, is this still a viable way to build my own PR by leeching it from these sites?

Lastly, one of these sites will even let html content links be included if I mask them by using full stops and commas as my anchor 'text'. I am assuming that the web masters just miss the linked chracters when reading my comments for approval. Does google devalue links with spammy anchors like this (ful stops etc.) or is it just like an image link with no alt, still worth something??

Keen to hear a few expert opinions!

Richard

You know what will happen, these sites will go from having no one posting on them to heaps of people, they will see what is happening and shut it down.... If there was a way that everybody won then I would...

Anchor text doesn't really matter considering the power of the link. Since the links point from a high authority site, it will definitely help you in getting the boost.

And Masking links will not be a good idea. You can put one link per page, dont spam these treasures. Do it in the right sense, read the whole article and comment accordingly, you will rank.

Thanks goldhome, re the masked links, I should have said that one site lets me get a link through the normal name and website fields while the other I can only gets links through entering a html link into the message field. So following your advice for no relevant anchor text still being useful given teh PR, I assume a masked link using a full stop is a heck of a lot better than no link at all!

Yeah, I am being very cautious given that there are next to no other comments throughout the site. Only posting one comment per week so they don't cotton on to why comments have suddenly become popular!
