Help with google ranking...

I have many keywords I target for one of my sites, but one search phrase in particular is frustrating me.

imobsters real estate calculator - I am #1 with this phrase, so all is good
imobsters calculator - I am #7. My competitors are the same as the phrase above, but they are beating me. I have changed my title and meta tags to put the second one first a few weeks back with no effect. The reason I care so much is the second phrase is much more popular

If anyone has any tools and could provide some tips on what I am lacking to move up with the second term, I'd appreciate it.

Be patient, when you change something on your site it can take a little time to be re-evaluated and ranked. Build a variety of backlinks with chosen anchor text and you should move up slowly.

I just googled the keyword you mentioned and I think pulled up your site! You have serious keyword density issues if I found the correct site. You want to check your onsite SEO. Check your density and tweak the heck out of it! The issue is all of the numbers on your site (again if I found teh correct one??) it is killing you for density! If you need more help just PM me. I had the exact same thing on my site because of a calculator. Once I fixed the density I rose to the top! and quickly.

Here is the link to this particular one: iMobsters Calculator
      Is that where you went?

The actual calculator pages can be tough to get keyword density, so about a month ago I wrote a help section above the calculator, which defaults to open/viewable but can be minimized which the last state will be saved in a cookie so you don't have to see it if you don't want to. This helped my keyword density, but on that particular term it is tough.

I did look back and a lot of the links I have out there are 'iMobsters Real State Calculator' as the name, which is probably why I rank higher on that. I've changed some of them, but I was hoping with my increasing traffic and very low bounce rate, great time on site, etc that google would push me ahead in the other keyword but it hasn't happened.

Really the key to success is to have a natural amount of keywords in your text and use back links with keyword anchor text to shoot you up the last 6 spots. Get those backlinks! I promise you will shoot to the top if you develop some long term, relevant deep backlinks. Find a way to use your competitor's site to leverage your own, by commenting on his site or anything like that if you can.

Yes, backlinks are key! can't get around them but you can have less work to do if you use proper keyword density.

  • Yea be patient. How long ago did you re-SEO your site? It will take some time for Google to see this and rank it. The fact that you are ranking for the other keywords sounds like you are doing the right things. Just keep doing what you're doing.

I agree with app developers, check your onsite SEO. That should be your first step.

And after you have your on site SEO right you should start building backlinks to your backlinks, this should give you the boost you need.
