Will article marketing boost your SERP?

I'm trying to increase my SERP position. I'm on page 1 of google for a few keywords that are searched for 3000 times a month but I've recently stopped building as many links. I'm running out of ideas about where to get my backlinks from.
I'm aware of all the common methods of getting links. I'm just wondering if I'm wasting my time with blog commenting and article marketing at the moment.
First off I hardly ever find a blog that is dofollow, relevant and has a high PR on the actual page. So I've stopped searching for those.
Is article marketing worth all the effort? I've done 30 or so articles but they're all obviously 0 PR links.
Is it worth continuing with article marketing and doing like 70 more articles?
Will those weak article backlinks still boost my SERP for keywords that have medium competition?
