Text Ads vs "Text and Image" Adsense Ads?

About a month ago, I switched to "Text and Image" Adsense ads, following the e-mail from Google saying that I could make more money that way. Since I figured they also stood to make money that way, I followed their advice.
I've recently heard, though, that text alone ads are better, so I'm not sure what to think. Does anyone have any experience (and best, testing) as to which performs best? My site has two adjacent 250x250 blocks near the top of the articles.
