No Follow Blog Commenting

The main thing I always see posted on this forum is this:

How do I build links to my website?

There are obviously hundreds of answers to this question, but I've come across a few interesting things today. I'm likely to get widely ridiculed for this but to be honest I've been suspecting it for a long time, so here goes anyway.

I'm of the opinion that Google DOES follow no follow links -- what's more, I'm also under the opinion that Google actually assigns some weight to them as PART OF A BALANCED AND DIVERSE LINK PROFILE. This may not be news to some people, but from the analysis I've done in recent weeks, it appears to me that there's an increasing amount of weight placed on the diversity of a profile as much as there is placed on the authoritativeness of a few links.

Here for the link that explicitly states Google DOES NOT crawl no follow links (which, in some instances at least, I believe to be untrue):

Just remembered I'm not allowed to post links yet...just type "site:searchenginejournal.com how google ask treat the no follow link" into Google if you're interested.

My basis for this belief?

Well, I always use ArticlesBase.com as a platform from which to build a foundation for future link building efforts. Every time I have done this, Google has picked up my site a lot quicker than it would do so through conventional means i.e. not doing any link building to my site (caveat: these are always new sites, obviously).

Secondly, I've been paying a lot of attention to the Payday Loans sector in the UK as of late, mainly because I'm ALWAYS seeing dips and fluctuations int he top 10 results for the term "payday loans" in Google UK. Now, a market as volatile as this isn't one you would want to base any meaningful research on, but I still feel it provides a good indication of the latest trends -- I used to work in an SEO Agency, and the payday loans sector is obviously ultra competitive (at my time of departure we had 4 payday loan clients in what was a relatively small agency).

Anyway, MakeTodayPayday.co.uk -- currently number 1 for the term "Payday Loans"; taking a sneeky peak at their backlink profile in Yahoo Site Explorer, I can see just over 1,700 links pointing in and the vast majority of them are form blog commenting (with a few authoritative sponsored links). This term accounts for 60,500 searches in the UK each and every month (exact volume).

More than anything I'm just looking to start a bit of a debate around this topic and try to get other people's experiences using no follow blog commenting; I personally have never tried it one a large scale, but from what I have tried so far, it's proven quite successful, and the main reason I would attribute to this is that it offers a little bit of diversification to the more standard looking link profile.

What are peoples thoughts on this? Anyone do this on a larger scale?

It's good that you realize about ArticlesBase.com and its goodness.

My take is you'd be wasting more time analysing this whole SEO truth about no-follow and do-follow. They're just links.

Just make those links and ensure they're high quality and that's it.

Time spent worrying about SEO theories is a waste. Your time is better put to making more links.

    Comment and move on.
