My homepage was ranking on google page 5 last week for my keyword and is only a week old. I checked the ranking again today and now its gone. I know google changes things all time, but my question is: My most recent post that I made is ranking on page 15 but not my homepage for my homepage keyword. Why would my post rank but not my homepage when the keyword for my post is different from the keyword for my homepage? Hope this makes sense.

Had to read that a few times

You're right in the fact that Google in constantly changing it's SERPs. Your site will dance around like that for awhile and you may even notice that certain keywords you have targeted in your posts now rank for the domain or vice versa. Do your on page SEO properly and build good backlinks with Anchor text consistently and it will even itself out!

Just build more links to the pages you want to rank in order to make your rankings stick.

    You'll be just fine.

  • Sounds like the Google Dance is occurring. But to answer your question more than likely the reason why your post is ranking better than your homepage is probably because of the relevancy that your post has towards the keyword. Also, it could be that it was published sooner.

Continue with linking and developing more content. If you are going at a nice and natural pace, Google will take note.

    Hope that helps!
