So people what are the + and - of manually building vs automatic software

It depends, what kind of links are you trying to get? How are you automating?

Automatic obviously gives you more for less work, and the SEs won't penalize you for it. There's no point in doing it manually unless the automation tool isn't designed to handle some aspect, like tough anti-bot measures, highly moderated comments, etc.

Of course there are other types of authority or high pr links that simply can't be automated.

I haven't started to use any software yet, is there anyone that could possible tell me about a good one?

So what I've basically learned is that it doesnt really matter if you use software or do it manually? but some site you are required to manually.

Any good software?

  i have been manually doing all my bidding. however just recently i am starting to implement Lexorsoft into my link building. I won't completely get away from doing the work myself but hopefully supplement alot of the nauseum

  Then you've learned something wrong. It does matter, especially in competitive niches. There is no way you can ever rank for a competitive term building links manually or without outsourcing (and you can bet your outsourcees will use software).
  
  Software is there to automate the tedious and time consuming process of building links. You should at first do it manually to grasp what it is you can automate by using software but if you value your time or want to do something else in the day than sitting there for hours and building one link after the other, you'll have to look into picking up some kind of script.
  
  What I'd recommend for starters is sick submitter. It's cheap, has an active community with lots of updates and addons and pretty straight forward.
