Sitemap outranking keyword!?

What's up guys,

Newb here. I've got an SEO-based question for those with more experience in this area. Any help would be really appreciated.

Can anyone explain why my sitemap navigation menu ranks for my actual keyword. I've sorted out canonical domain issues with 301 redirects and my sitemap appears fine in Google webmaster tools. I'm unsure what other settings to check...

Anybody shed any light here?

Thanks in advance - J.

      Hi JJfitness,

Having your HTML site map rank well is a good thing. You don't want to do anything to damage that ranking.

Of course you will want the pages of your website with useful content to also rank well. You can do that by promoting those content pages with solid meritorious link building. Do not neglect internal links as interlinking pages with in context keyword anchor text can be very helpful.
