I get confused as to what is called a ranking, If I type in the name of my site, (this is not my site but an example) 0netwothree like one two three it shows at the top or sometimes second from the top out of a possible 210,000,000 . is this the ranking, as say if onetwothree is my site and I am looking to try to get on the first page with one being the main word say for 1 million search results, I have tried to find my search ranking using free sites but my site is just 8 week old and it show it as nil, also should I put a meta tag to each page ? my site has about 100 pages or is that to many to ad meta tags too, any help please

If you are using Firefox, get the rank checker addon. That will tell you where your site is ranking in Google, Yahoo and Bing.

I wouldn't go according to the Google search, because Google gives results based on your search habits. So if you have been on your "onetwothree" website a whole bunch of times, and you search for one two three, chances are Google will show your site at the top, but that is not your true ranking.

When you type in your site name, if you see your site as the first result... then you have a number 1 google ranking for that exact phrase you typed into the google search (yoursite name)

But to get free search engine traffic, you'll need to get ranked for keywords that have traffic.. For example onetwothree might not get any searches at all, but 123 does... so you'd want to get ranked for that to get the traffic.

The simplest solution would be to use www.scrooglescaper.com

    Another tool would be https://adwords.google.com/select/Ad...ingPreviewTool
(Set to your country where you wanna rank)

Enter keyword and you know your rank.

Rankings are different according to different keywords.

Keyword A and B might have different rankings for the same webpage.

    Makes sense?

One thing to keep in mind is Google does not rank sites. They only rank specific pages of a site.

That could be your home page, or a page deeper in your site.

You could have many pages on a single site get ranked for many different keywords/keyphrases, as well.

And as mentioned, it is entirely keyword/keyphrase specific.
