Is posting in forums related to your niche still helpful?

I have been thinking about trying to find someone to hire to find forums in the car/auto related niche, then post 50 or so comments with a link to my site. Does this still work to help with ranking? Also, how much would I have to pay to get this done? Anyone have any experience with this? I appreciate the help.

    It does bring me fair amount of traffic, it depends on the niche of course, but generally I can assure you that forum posts do work.
